Russell Morinaga

Russell Akira Morinaga, 73, of Hilo, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired accountant for Hilo Medical Center.

No services. The family requests flowers and koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

He is survived by mother, Yoshiko Morinaga of Hilo; sister, Gail (Jerry) Thompson of Austin, Texas; a niece and nephew, and two grandnephews.

Marion Morimoto-Shige ta

Marion Chidori Morimoto-Shigeta, 72, of Hilo, died Oct. 29, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 7, 1948, in Hilo, she was the president of Hilo Candy Co.

She is survived by husband, Dennis Shigeta of Hilo; daughters, Kathleen (Todd) Morimoto-Nishioka of Kaneohe, Oahu, Lori (Kevin) Lum of Honolulu, Lisa (Earl Miyazono) Morimoto of Hilo and Julie Oda of Michigan; son, Kenneth (Nicole) Morimoto of Mililani, Oahu; step-son, Scott Shigeta of Honolulu; brother, Alan (Anna) Taniguchi of Honolulu; nine grandchildren; and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Charles Garcia

Charles Jose “Carlos” Garcia, 91, of Hilo, died Nov. 19, 2021 at his residence in Hilo. Born Oct. 28, 1930, in La Jara, Colorado, he was a retired chief observer for the National Center for Atmospheric Research High Altitude Observatory, U.S. Navy veteran and member of the Young Men’s Institute, Y’s Men International Club, Toastmasters and the Piihonua Kumiai.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by daughters, Carla (Scott) Chitwood of Hilo and Pamela (John) Homa of Las Cruces, New Mexico; sons, Steven (Duan) Garcia of Hilo and Thomas Garcia of Las Vegas; sisters, Eva Mask of Parkton, North Carolina and Agnes Moser of Deadwood, South Dakota; brother, Julian (Debbie) Garcia of West Columbia, Texas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Dale Gomes

Dale Gomes, 49, of Pahoa, died Nov. 19, 2021 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born April 7, 1972, in Honokaa, he worked as a carpenter. Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by children, Elijah Yamamoto of Kapaau, and Dylan Gomes, Dereck Gomes and Devon Gomes, all of Waimea; mother, Mary Lou Maertens of Pahoa; brother, Dominic Gomes of Pahoa; and numerous uncles and aunts.

Lance Abe

Lance Kiyoshi Abe, 67, of Hilo, died Nov. 9, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 12, 1953, in Laupahoehoe, he was a reitred eligibity worker for the state Department of Human Services, farmer, previously worked at Laupahoehoe School and coached girls’ basketball at the school and member and Elder at Zion’s House of Praise Holiness Church in Hilo.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 13 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for visitation. Casual attire. The family requests flowers and koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Amy Abe of Hilo; brothers, Randall (Linda) Abe of Kaneohe, Oahu, and Mervyn Abe of Oregon; sister, Joyce Yamamoto of Hilo; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces.

Narcissus Adams

Narcissus “Cissy” Puaokina Adams, 84, of Hilo, died Nov. 3, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 10, 1937, in Honolulu, she was a Soldier of The Cross, ordained minister with His Highest Praise Ministry, previously served as a pastor of Overcoming Faith Center – Hilo, and was employed at Hilo Medical Center and Life Care Center of Hilo.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 9 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Service will also be livestreamed at oneroomstreaming.com, event ID: dodoMortuary, password: NDLYWG. Burial at 11 a.m. Dec. 13 at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe, Oahu. Family request casual attire be worn.

She is survived by children, Berna (Zane) Vaught, Mark (Joni) Adams, Abigail (Frank) Meyers, Charlotte (John) Kaauwai, Bernard (Iris) Adams Jr., Juliana (Raymond) Del Bono, Henry (Valarie) Keahi, and Loxley (Aron) Hainrrik; brother, Donald Laa; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richelle Turner

Richelle Lani Turner, 67, of Mountain View, died Nov. 15, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired business owner, and member of Zion’s House of Praise, Holiness Church.

She is survived by husband, Kenneth Turner; sons, Aaron Turner and Jacob Turner; daughter, Jennifer Hakuole; brothers, Michael McNiel and Steve McNiel; sisters, April Andrade, and Robin McNiel; and five grandchildren.
