A high surf advisory is in effect for east-facing shores of the Big Island through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
A medium-period northeast swell will combine with shorter period wind waves to produce rough and choppy surf along east-facing shores through Wednesday,Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said Tuesday morning.
Wave heights of 7 feet to 10 feet are forecast for the island’s eastern and northern coasts, forecasters said.
Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and to exercise caution. The public is advised to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents that can make swimming difficult and dangerous.
