Big Island police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Friday afternoon at Honl’s Beach Park in Kailua-Kona.

When Kona patrol officers responded to an affray at the beach park they learned that two men, a 42-year-old and a 47-year-old, both of Kailua-Kona, were involved in a heated verbal argument that turned physical. As they were fighting, a 48-year-old Naalehu man assisted the 42-year-old man.

During the altercation, the 48-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening stab wounds to his back and thigh, as well as several cuts to his hands. He was treated and later released from Kona Community Hospital.

The 47-year-old was arrested at the scene, but later released pending further investigation.
