Tsuneko Doi

Tsuneko Najita Doi, 97, of Kawaihae, died Dec. 2, 2021. Born in Ahualoa, she was the proprietor of T. Doi and Sons and the Doi Store in Kawaihae and a member of the Kamuela Hongwanji.

Private services will be held at a later date. The family requests no flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by daughters, Ethel Minayoshi of Honolulu and Karen (Reed Flickinger) Doi of Captain Cook; daughter-in-law, Joyce Doi of Honolulu, along with four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calvin Tanouye

Calvin “Cal” Tanouye, 74, of Hilo died July 27, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was the owner of Cal’s 76 Service Station.

Friends may call 5 p.m. Dec. 29 at New Hope Hilo for a 6 p.m. celebration of life. Casual attire.

He is survived by partner, Charlotte Hamada; children, Gavin Tanouye, Anne (Sam Hauanio) Tanouye, Ian (Crystal Robledo) Tanouye; sisters, Marie (James) Fernandez, Sandi (Eric) Moore; hanai children, Calvin Hamada, Jelden Hamada, Kelinn Hamada, Blaiselin Hamada; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lawrence del Rosario

Lawrence del Rosario, 81, of Kapaau, died Nov. 29, 2021 at his residence. Born Jan. 14, 1940, in Lanai City, Lanai, he was a retired construction laborer; a member of Local Union 368 and Lector Ministry at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi.

No services planned.

He is survived by son, Juan Flores of Bristol, Pennsylvania; daughters, Ann McGuire and Anna Marks, both of Honolulu, and Margie (Ken) Nekrash of Kapaau; sisters, Rose Colon of Honolulu and Dinah del Rosario of Lanai City, Lanai; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Rose De Pontes

Rose Marie De Pontes, 73, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 29, 2021, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 3, 1948 in North Kohala, she was retired.

Private service to be held.

She is survived by husband, Gary De Pontes; son, Chad De Pontes; daughter, Debbie (Jon) Mabuni all of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Joanne David of Ocean View, Shirley Henderson of Louisiana, and Ethel Yamamoto of North Kohala; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tashiro Okunami

Tashiro Okunami, 86, of Hilo, died Dec. 11, 2021 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired chief automotive mechanic for the Hawaii Fire Department and had served in the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Private services held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Kathy Okunami of Hilo; daughter, Diane (Gerald) Kosaki of Hilo; son, Russell (Myra Okumura) Okunami of Hilo; sisters, Tamayo Yoshioka of Papaikou, Fay (George) Yamasaki and Shirley (Ernest) Kawamoto of Hilo; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sadako Okunami

Sadako Okunami, 92, of Ahualoa, died Dec. 14, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Hilo. Born in Kapoho, she was the retired proprietress of Okunami Enterprises, Inc. dba KOGEN PICKLES.

She is survived by sons, Larry (Laurie) Okunami of Oahu, Ronald (Cathy Davis-Okunami) Okunami of Hilo, and Michael (Loretta Cacoulidis) Okunami of Ahualoa; daughters, Janice (Harlan) Asano of Hilo, and Lynne (Wayne) Daimaru of Kailua-Kona; sister, Sumiko Higa of Oahu; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
