Buy local

Reminding residents and visitors that its avocado and citrus season on Hawaii Island.

It’s the time to support your local farmers. Remember when you buy local produce, you are buying from people whose children go to school with your children, you are buying from the man who opens the door for your mother. When you buy mainland produce its most likely from a fat cat who never goes to the farm just looks at a balance sheet. He won’t open the door for your mother he will run her off the road. Anyway buy local.

Tourism survey’s sample ‘infinitesimally small’

There is no basis to conclude: “Most residents favor tourism” as reported in West Hawaii Today on Jan. 6, because of the infinitesimally small sample used to support that front page headline.

According to the report, 1,011 residents responded to a 2021 “Island of Hawai’i Visitors Bureau” survey. Only 706 residents (out of approximately 201,500 total residents) of Hawaii Island responded favorably. That represents just 0.35% of Big Island residents. Of those, over half (546) have ties to the tourism industry. The remaining 465 favorable responses represent a mere 0.2% of residents.

There are no substantive conclusions that can reasonably be drawn from this survey, and I do not believe we should use any part of it to inform important decisions for our island’s future.

The best, ever

Just talked to Grammy Award winner John Cruz who many including myself consider him as the best songwriter ever. John told me the Jan. 15 concert at Kahilu Theatre is canceled until further notice.

His new single “Just To Build A Bridge” in acoustic version is “super awesome” in my heart and soul. It talks about the realities of life and what lies beyond.

I’ve been blessed by the greatest Jesus Christ to have such fine friends like Cruz. I’d recommend everybody to listen to “It’s Time To Build A Bridge.” It is a super awesome tune in electric and acoustic versions. Highly recommended. Enough said.
