A high surf advisory is now in effect for west-facing shores of the Big Island through 6 p.m. Thursday.

A series of overlapping northwest swells continues to fuel high surf along the Kona and Kohala coasts, the National Weather Service said. The current swell was expected to decline through the night, with the next swell building Thursday, possibly pushing surf near warning levels later in the day.

Wave heights of 6 to 8 feet are forecast Thursday.
