Two promoted to assistant chief
Two Hawaii Police Department officers — each with over a quarter-century of service under the belts — have been promoted to assistant chief, Police Chief Paul Ferreira announced Thursday. The promotions were effective Tuesday.
Andrew Burian, a 31-year veteran of the department, now commands the department’s Administrative Services Bureau. Burian’s former assignments were as a police officer in South Hilo and the Area I Criminal Investigation Division, patrol sergeant in Kona, detective in the Area I Criminal Investigation Section and Area I Vice Section, detective in CIU/IA, lieutenant in Kona, South Hilo, and Community Policing, and captain in Ka‘u and Hamakua. He previously held the post as the technical services division major and subsequently as the acting assistant chief in the Administrative Services Bureau.
Kenneth Quiocho, a 29-year veteran, now commands the Area I Field/Investigative Operations Bureau encompassing the department’s East Hawaii districts. Quiocho’s former assignments were as a police officer in Hamakua, South Kohala, and traffic enforcement officer, field training officer in South Kohala, canine handler in Area I Vice Section, detective in Area II Criminal Investigation Section, patrol sergeant in South Kohala and the Training Section, lieutenant in communications-dispatch and the accreditation section, and captain in Ka‘u, Puna, and South Hilo. He previously held the post of Area I field/investigative operations major and subsequently as the acting assistant chief of the Area I field/investigative operations.
