Calvin Arita

Calvin “Bong” Yukio Arita, 69, of Pepeekeo, died Jan. 26, 2022, at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a retired automotive mechanic for the former Arita Auto Service, house painter and a U.S. Army veteran. Friends may call for vistation from 3 to 4 p.m. Feb. 19, 2022, at Dodo Mortuary chapel; private services to follow. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Cathy Arita; daughters, Jamielyn (Ian) Tanoue, Shaylyn Arita, and Astilyn (Chase Sakamoto) Arita; sister, Gwendolyn Santos, all of Pepeekeo; three granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Davelynn Bufil

Davelynn “Blu” Leinette Bufil, 66, of Hilo, died Nov. 30, 2021 at Pohai Malama. Born in Hilo, she was the ground supervisor for the Department of Transportation at Hilo Airport and a volunteer for RSVP.

Frineds may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 19 at Wailoa State Park Pavilion No. 3 for a drive-thru visitation. A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m.

She is survived by father, Pilagio Bufil of Hilo; companion, Joanna Higa of Hilo; sisters, Abigail Bufil of Salinas, California, Patricia (Eric) Bufil-Dehmer of Hilo, and Francine (Randy) Bufil-Uy of Soledad, California; and nieces and nephews.

Kathleen Matsumura

Kathleen Hatsune Matsumura, 77, of Hilo died Jan. 15, 2022, at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was the vice president at American Trading Company Limited and an independent investor.

Private service held. The family requests that flowers and koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

She is survived by brother, Ernest (Wilma) Matsumura of Hilo; and nieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Kathleen Miyasaki

Kathleen Yaeko Miyasaki, 72, of Hilo died on Jan. 29, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Sapporo, Japan, she was a retired school psychologist.

She is survived by brother, James (Lora) Miyasaki of Honolulu; sister, Linda Wong of Hilo; niece, Andrea Wong of Hilo; and nephew, David Miyasaki of Honolulu.

Lilly Mattos

Lilly Beth Mattos, 85, of Honokaa, died Jan. 18, 2022, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Waimea, she was a homemaker and a member of the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Feb. 19 at Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire; no flowers.

She is survived by husband, Albert Mattos Sr. of Honokaa; sons, Albert Mattos Jr. and Jeffrey Mattos of Honokaa, Mark Mattos and Russell (Lori Martins) Mattos of Hilo; daughter, Felicia (Keane Nako) Mattos-Nako of Waimea; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gregorio Guzman

Gregorio Tagayun Guzman, 72, of Waimea, died Feb. 8, 2022, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in San Pablo, Isabela, Philippines, he was was a retired cashier with 76 Gas Station and was also a member of New Hope Waimea.

He is survived by wife, Julie Guzman of Waimea; daughters, Judy Taong of Kaneohe, Oahu, Imelda Pesta, Jacqueline (Kristian) Asing and Paulyn Taong of Waimea, Daisy (Dennis) Dela Torre of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Gibeth (Randy) Gloria of the Philippines and Grace Guzman of Las Vegas; sons, Glenn (Mary) Guzman and Gener (Mhai) Guzman of the Philippines; brother, Alu Guzman of the Philippines; sisters, Naty Guzman of Italy and Marilyn Guzman of the Philippines; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Michael Denison

Michael Lea Denison, 71, of Waiki’i Ranch, died Feb. 4, 2022 at his residence. Born Jan. 27, 1951, in Honolulu, he retired as an agent from Hawaiian Airlines Kona Station.

He is survived by wife, Ann Denison of Waiki’i Ranch; sons, Jaret (Tina) Denison and Nicholas (Cheryl Oda) Denison, all of Kona; brothers, Scott (Nancy) Denison of Texas and Patrick Denison of Arizona; two grandsons; and nephews, nieces and cousins.

Naomi Naipo

Naomi Kaupiko Naipo, 78, of Hilo, died Jan. 26, 2022 in Panaewa. She was born June 27, 1943, in Miloli‘i.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by husband, Ollney Naipo Sr.; son, Ollney (Yvonne Shea) Naipo Jr.; daughter, Ramona (Bob Douglas) Naipo; siblings, Winona Tahara and Wilfred Kaupiko; five grand children; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
