Mitsugi Takeshita

Mitsugi Donald Takeshita, 87, of Hilo, died Feb. 10, 2022 at home. Born on Jan. 23, 1935 in Koloa (Wahiawa) Kaua’I, he served in the U.S. Army and worked as a laboratory tech for GlaxoSmithKline.

Private services held.

He is survived by ex-wife, Hazel Takeshita; and two daughters, Ginger Takeshita and Danielle (Richard Tumin) Takeshita.

Harry Toki

Harry Shizuo Toki, 71, of Hilo died Feb. 2, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired topographical surveyor for the Department of Agriculture, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, avid outdoorsman and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Private services held.

He is survived by son, Leland Toki of Hilo; daughter, Lauryn Toki of Hilo; siblings, Godwin (Veronica) Toki of Kurtistown, Sharyn (Dan) Frost of Washington, and Alma Toki of Honolulu; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Albert Mattos Sr.

Albert Joseph Mattos Sr. 87, of Honokaa, died Feb. 12, 2022, at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born in Hilo, he was a retired custodian at both the Waimea Elementary and Intermediate School and at the Waimea Police Department.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. March 5 at Hilo Glad Tidings Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at the Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by sons, Albert Mattos Jr. and Jeffrey Mattos of Honokaa, Mark Mattos of Hilo and Russell (Lori Martins) Mattos of Waimea; daughter, Felicia (Keane Nako) Mattos-Nako of Waimea; brothers, Abel (Maile) Mattos Jr., Sebastian (Dolores) Mattos and Edward (Mohala Waldron) Mattos all of Hilo; sisters, Eleanor Finch of California, Vera Rushlow, Gladys (Arthur) Potter, Lillian Taylor and Theresa Baumgarner, all of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and one great-grandchild.

Dennis Morita

Dennis “Morit” Kiyoshi Morita, 78, died Feb. 16, 2022 at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a ship dispatcher at Pearl Harbor, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of the Wreckers Golf Club.

No services and no koden.

He is survived by brother, Wayne (Jean) Morita of Hilo; and nephews.

Justin P. Rodriguez, 42, of Hilo, died Jan. 10, 2022 in Hilo. He was born in Washington, D.C.

Eleanor Chun Fat

Eleanor Chun Fat, 85 of Kaneohe, Oahu, died Jan. 18, 2022, in Hilo. She was born April 22, 1936 in Honolulu.

She is survived by husband, Victor; sons, Darrell, Chadwick and Randal; daughter Vickylynn Chun Fat-Ardren; sister, Harriet; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Luana Akamu

Luana Kapeka Ten You Akamu, 35, of Kapa’au, died Feb. 15, 2022, at her residence. Born May 15, 1986 in Hilo, she was a production facilities coordinator with Cyanotech and a member of Ka ‘Ohana ‘o Kalaupapa and the Kohala Hawaiian Civic Club.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. March 19 at the family home in Kapa’au, 54-2531 Kynnersley Road, for a celebration of life. The family requests orange attire and a luncheon will follow.

She is survived by fiancé, Johanna Foster; parents, Payton and Velda Akamu of Na’alehu; brother Aaron Akamu of Na’alehu; sisters, Avory (Stephen Kishimoto) Acob and Maile Mae Akamu, all of Hawi; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carolann “Carol” Mary Christenson, 63, of Ocean View, died on Dec. 24, 2021, at her residence. Born May 13, 1958 in San Diego, she sold plants and shrubs in Ocean View.

Joseph Farias Jr.

Joseph Farias Jr., 87, of Hilo, died Feb. 13, 2022 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born June 27, 1934, in Pepeekeo, he was a retired water plant operator for the County Department of Water Supply, U.S. Army veteran and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. March 8 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Papaikou, for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

She is survived by wife, Alice Farias of Hilo; sons, Joseph (Margaret) Farias III of Keaau and Jarrett (Caroline) Farias of San Ramon, California; sisters, Flora Temporal of Hilo and Rose Marie (Felipe) Resurecion of Volcano; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
