We can learn

I have comments regarding the letter to the editor on Wednesday, titled “False gods of metal.” This letter is informative, well-written and emphasizes the suffering, death and hopelessness that the attack on Ukraine by Mr. Putin has created. I blame Mr. Putin because evidence shows a large majority of the Russian population, as well as a majority of our world’s countries, are against his attack on Ukraine.

Mr. Putin is an authoritarian dictator who could do irreversible harm to the planet unless he is removed from his presidency of Russia. No one person should ever have that much power in today’s world. The last paragraph of the referenced letter to the editor says it’s time we stop glorifying war and weapons of mass destruction, etc. Recent information from NATO and most other countries indicates that the glorification of war is slowly disappearing. Hopefully, the battle of Ukraine and it’s brave people will in the world will recognize how dangerous these events are to all of us, as well as climate change.

I hope the citizens of the United States, Republicans, Democrats and others, will take into consideration the danger an authoritarian government like in Russia, North Korea, and others can cause when they are voting in the 2024 presidential election. We want to make sure our next president, no matter what political party, doesn’t turn out to be a narcissistic authoritarian. We can learn from the struggles of the Ukrainian people what could besiege the United States if we allow our hard-fought democracy to disappear.

Sharon Peterson, the living legend

It has been a blessing from above to have friends like Sharon Peterson and her super awesome husband Greg Mooers of Waimea. In my heart and soul, Sharon has virtually all of the accolades that the volleyball world can distribute.

The great Sharon Peterson manufactured seven national titles for the University of Hawaii at Hilo, which is legendary in itself and god-like. She was a college Player of the Year, Hall of Fame inductee by numerous organizations and received other prestigious awards. Of course, I must not leave out the fact that Sharon Peterson is a two-time Olympic volleyball Player.

I’m not God, but, Parker School should name the great-legendary volleyball player and coach Sharon Peterson the new volleyball coach of Parker School for the girl’s team. Sharon will make Parker School a lot more attractive and bring more students to this “super awesome” institution.
