Geoffrey Dameg

Geoffrey Jay Dameg, 43, of Hilo, died March 6, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. He was a manager and cook at Ling’s Chop Suey Restaurant in Hilo and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 11:30 a.m. March 19 at Coconut Island pavilion for a service.

He is survived by parents, Alejandro and Esperanza Dameg of Oahu; brother, Gerald (Caroline) Dameg of Ewa Beach, Oahu; sister, Abigail J. Dameg of Honolulu; fiancee, Wi Ling Cheng; niece, Gerica Dameg.

Lorna Witt

Lorna Elizabeth “Liz” Witt, 96, of Kona, died March 9, 2022. Born April 18, 1926, in San Pedro California, she was a teacher in Los Angeles and Covina, California, before Kahakai Elementary School in Kona, where she retired.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by three sons, Gary (Roline) Witt; Keith (Becky) Witt; and Earl (Tori) Witt; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister Judge Dorothy Nelson and cousin Philip Hughes.

Edwart Kobata Sr.

Edward Akira Kobata Sr., 98, of Hawi, died Jna. 8, 2022 at his residence. Born June 13, 1923, in Honolulu, he was a diesel mechanic in the Marshall Islands and other Pacific Islands, member of Operating Engineers in California, Club 100 and a U.S. Army veteran with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

Private services to be held.

He is survived by sons, Edward Kobata Jr. of Long Beach, California, Richard Kobata of Phoenix, Arizona, and Barry Kobata of Venice, California; daughters, Carolyn (Paul) Simonsen of Carmel, California, and Florence (Hiram) Higashida of Hawi; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anthony Gomes

Anthony Everett Gomes, 84, of Kaapahu, Honokaa, died March 6, 2022 at his residence. Born March 17, 1937, in Kalopa, he was retired from the County of Hawaii Department of Water Supply as the district supervisor for the Waimea, a rancher, formerly employed by the state Department of Fish and Game, member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa and Hawaii Saddle Club, and U.S. Air Force veteran. a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. March 26 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for 10 a.m. memorial Mass. Burial to follow at Kalopa Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, Edna Gomes; daughter, Toni (John Mac) Kalauli; sons, Ryan Gomes and Kris Everett (Alayna) Gomes, all of Kaapahu; sisters, Madeline Furtado of Oregon and Frances DeRego of Honokaa; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Shellie Deponte

Shellie Marie Waikapu (Kamai) Deponte, 66, of Keaau, died Feb. 28, 2022. Born March 10, 1955, in Honolulu, she a member of Sure Foundation Church Puna and Keaau Elementary School’s TUTU.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. March 26 at Sure Foundation Church Puna, 16-1592 Pohaku Circle, Keaau, for a 9 a.m. service. Family asks flowers be delivered prior to 8 a.m.

She is survived by husband, Michael Deponte of Keaau; son, John Deponte; daughters, Sherrilyne (Deponte) Onodera and Chanel Deponte; brothers, Mike George and Tony Mark Young; sisters, Debra Maxilom and Michelle Silletto; and five grandchildren.
