Christine Bean

Christine Estelle Bean, 57, of Holualoa, died Jan. 18, 2022 at Stanford Health Care in Santa Clara, California. Born March 4, 1964, in Hilo, she was a foundation manager and property operations director, Teach for America Hawaii board member and a devoted advocate for cultural preservation of Hawaii.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service; cremation to follow. Casual attire is requested. Donations can be in the form of cards for family or to two of Christine’s favorite nonprofits – Boys &Girls Club Big Island and/or Teach For America Hawaii.

She is survived by husband, Ross Bean of Holualoa; daughters, Taryn (Pasha) Moshiri of Los Angeles, and Dannielle (Bobby) Leslie of Kona; parents, Clifford and Jane Tam of Holualoa; sisters, Carla Tam of Kailua-Kona and Corie (Chris) Potter of San Jose, California; and four grandchildren.

Harley Rhodes

Harley Leroy Rhodes, 75 of Waikoloa died March 11, 2022. Born Dec. 28, 1946 in Minot, North Dakota, he was a U.S. Coast Guard and Navy veteran and worked as a military and commercial pilot.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by spouse, Keala of Waikoloa; sons Michael (Michelle) Rhodes of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, and Eric Rhodes of Thorne Bay, Alaska; brothers Steve Rhodes and Kelly Patrick Rhodes, both of Mandan, North Dakota, and Conrad (Nancy) Rhodes of Brighton, Colorado; sister Charlene (Sam) Daniel of Byrdstown, Tennessee; and two granddaughters.

Private Services will be held.

Kris Gitelson

Kris Leslie Gitelson, 68, of Captain Cook, died Feb. 7, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 31, 1953, in Minneapolis, she was an artist and a bookkeeper.

Services to be held at a later date.

She is survived by husband, Barry Gitelson of Captain Cook; brother, Bryan (Sandy) Caldwell of Kailua-Kona; one aunt; and a niece and nephew.

Danderine Clark

Danderine “Dee” Kaui Clark, of Captain Cook, died Feb. 14, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 11, 1957, in Honolulu, she was a medical unit clerk at Kona Community Hospital.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by son, Clifford Chung-Hoon Palau of Kealakekua; daughter, Elizabeth Aniu of Honaunau; step-son, Todd Ryan of Topeka, Kansas; step-daughter, Tracy Boyle of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers, Edmund Chung-Hoon and Randall Kaaloa, both of Honolulu; half-brothers, Richard Kaaloa of Waianae, Oahu and Steven (Georgia) Chung-Hoon of Hilo; step-brother, Michael (Gay) Regohos of Kailua-Kona; sister, Ululani (Hillary) Kanuha of Waimanalo, Oahu; half-sister, Primrose (Rudy) Tayros of Honolulu; step-sisters, Joanne Morimoto of Pearl City, Oahu and Cathy (Clay) Villanueva of Kailua-Kona; six grandchildren; one aunt; one uncle; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steven Abreu

An obituary published March 11 for Steven Abreu, 80, 0f Kailua-Kona, who died Feb. 27, 2022, omitted two surviving sisters due to information provided by the mortuary. Abreu is also survived by Margaret Sampaio of Honolulu and Elizabeth Seal of Virginia.
