Patterns, Textures and Reflections is the theme of the Waimea Arts Council’s show at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea.
Local artists embraced the challenge of three motifs that visual artists have been exploring for centuries. The exhibition runs from April 1 through May 29.
Patterns are found everywhere in nature, from branching and spirals to cracks, spots, waves, even crystals, often described as sacred geometry. Texture is perceived surface quality of a work of art through the sense of touch, or visually or both. Reflection is open to wide interpretations from mirroring back an image to personal thoughts and insights. In selecting the theme, the Arts Council wanted something that could be both concrete and imaginative, serious or fun, wide open to artistic interpretation.
The Firehouse Gallery, located at the intersection of Mamalahoa Highway and Lindsey Road in Waimea, is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and whenever the flags out front are flying.
The Waimea Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the arts, the encouragement of artists, and providing a forum for art-related community events.
