Bernardo Guillermo

Bernardo Agustin Guillermo, 96, of Papaikou, died March 4, 2022, at his residence. Born in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was retired from the former Mauna Kea Sugar Co.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. March 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 9:30 a.m. eulogy and 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park Ilima Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by children, Emeterio (Lucita) Guillermo, Serafina (Francisco) Mateo, and Elmer (Gerilyn) Guillermo, all of Papaikou; brother, Camilo (Clarina) Guillermo of the Philippines; sister, Concepcion (Silvestre) Dumlao of Honolulu; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Noelani Kapuni

Noelani Audene Kaleoaloha Kapuni, 95, of Hilo died March 5, 2022, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. March 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5:30 p.m. service. Cremation to follow. Burial at 9:30 a.m. April 2 at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

Survived by sons, John (Kyle) Kapuni III and Raynard (Tracey) Kapuni, all of Hilo; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin Banasky

Marvin Isaac Banasky, 76, of Mountain View, died Feb. 27, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Portland, Oregon, he was a plumbing supply salesman and grower of tropical plants.

Private services held.

He is survived by wife, Veatrius Cress of Mountain View; son, Stanley Lanning; daughters, Janet Frank and Anna Dougherty; sister, Rebecca Smilovitz; and 10 grandchildren.

Russell Chin

Russell Jon Chin, 63, of Hilo, died Feb. 10, 2022 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Feb. 19, 1958, in Honolulu, he was the district manager for Hawaii Island for Matson; active in numerous boards and organizations including; Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island, Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, Japanese Chamber of Commerce &Industry of Hawaii, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council, Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and Hawaii Island Economic Development Board; and supporter of Easter Seals, Imiloa Astronomy Center and Hawaii Island 4H Clubs. Past affiliations include; Keaukaha Canoe Club, Na Waa Hanakahi, Hawaii Island United Way and Hawaii County Workforce Investment Board.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. April 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Patricia Kenoi-Chin of Hilo; sons, Ryan (Chey Kaeo) Chin and Sean (Kamailelaulii Davis) Chin, all of Hilo; mother, Alice Chin of Hilo; brothers, Randall (Ku’uipo) Chin of Hercules, California and Keone Chin of Hilo; sister, Carol (Francis Gravela) Kekauoha of Hilo; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
