The Honokaa Swimming Pool will reopen on Wednesday, the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation announced Friday.

Initially, the pool will operate on a limited schedule and be open for recreational and lap-swimming uses. Individuals may utilize the pool in 45-minute blocks at 10 and 11 a..m. and 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Sundays; and 10 and 11 a.m. and 1 and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The department will look to expand hours and modify operations at the pool in the upcoming months.

The pool was closed in May 2019 during an renovation of the pool’s administration office, restrooms, changing rooms and showers. In addition, work was undertaken in the pump room.

“I want to send my deepest appreciation to the Friends of Honokaa Pool. They were instrumental to this reopening through their determined organizational and planning efforts, significant fundraising, and construction efforts,” said Maurice Messina, director of Parks and Recreation. “This is a perfect example of how our government and a dedicated community can work in partnership to benefit everyone. We don’t know when this facility would have reopened without their support.”
