Patrick Pedro Jr.

Patrick “Peej” Paul Pedro Jr., 39, of Waimea, died March 27, 2022, at his residence. Born in Kealakekua, he was a farmer and rancher and member of the Waimea 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 9 at the Kealamakia residence, Mana Road, in Waimea for an 11 a.m. service. Burial will follow at the Waimea LDS Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by parents, April and Mark Kealamakia of Waimea; father, Patrick Pedro Sr. of Hilo; brothers, Adam (Erin) Pedro of Alaska, Isaac (Olina Lee) Pedro of Puna and Kapena (Robin Santiago) Pedro of Hilo; sisters, Jillane Pedro of Honolulu, Julie Garcia of Puna and Tiana Pedro of Las Vegas; maternal grandmother, Stella Pedro of Hilo; paternal grandmother, Eva Kealamakia of Kamuela; and numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, three great-aunts, step-brothers and step-sisters. Gary Burris

Gary Wayne Burris, 69, of Kailua-Kona, died March 19, 2022, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1952 in Santa Maria, California, he was a retired cash handler for California Bay Area Rapid Transit, a musician, bass player and member of Bandanna &Coffee, and the Larry Norman rock band known as “People.”

Private service held.

He is survived by wife, Nani Naipo-Burris of Kailua-Kona; hanai son, Kaui (Charlie) Steffens of California; hanai daughter, Aja (David) Olson of Honolulu; brother, Greg (Brigid) Burris of California; four hanai grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Agapita Marzan

Agapita Javier Marzan, 88, of Hilo died March 28, 2022, at her residence. Born in Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. April 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; service at 11. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Rodolfo (Jeoly) Marzan of Pepeekeo, and Jerry (Racquel) Marzan of Hilo; daughters, Rosalina Malasaga of Hilo, Nora Palm of Garden Grove, California, and Shelly Marzan of Sacramento; brother, Felix (Loli) Javier of the Philippines; sisters, Maria Itliong of the Philippines, and Mercedes (Boy) Jimenez of America Samoa; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Atkins

William “Bill” Marion Atkins, 85, of Pahoa, passed away at home on March 26, 2022. Prior to retirement, he was a Civil Engineer with the Hilo, Dept. Of Water Supply.

Bill is survived by his wife, Rose Padilla Atkins; stepsons, Michael J Lara, Benjamin Lara Jr.; stepdaughters, JoAnn Lubas, Cheryl Lynn Dureg and sister, Sue (Dick) Hyatt.

The family has chosen a private service.

Kathleen Kalauli

Kathleen Mildred Kalauli, 70, of Pahoa, died March 17, 2022. She retired as a nurse from the Hilo Medical Center and was a member of numerous bowling leagues.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 28 at Onekahakaha Beach Park for a celebration of life.

She is survived by husband, Randy Kalauli Sr.; son, Randy (Raemi) Kalauli Jr. of Honolulu; daughters, Nicole (John) Cardarople, of Oxford, Pennsylvania, Danielle Dalessio, of Orlando, and DeeDee (Siaifoi) Tui; brother, James (Helen) Connor, of Virginia; sisters, Patricia (Rick Cihak) Mckee, of St Petersburg, Florida, Michelle (Kenneth) Gore, of Pinellas Park, Florida, Regina (Barry) Shangold, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and Janet (Michael) Fontaine, of Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johan Gestson

Johan “Col. Joh” Gestson, 93, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 20, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Milwaukie, Oregon, he was a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer.

Sueko Ono

Sueko Ono, 93, of Hilo died Aug. 4, 2021, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. She retired as a cashier from Safeway and was a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private service held. The family requests that koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

She is survived by daughter, Jan Kaniho of Hilo; sons, Richard (Cheryline) Ono of Kealakekua and Ken Ono of Captain Cook; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Iwaloa Chilson

Iwaloa Florence Loebl Chilson, 48, of Hilo died Feb. 21, 2022, in California. Born in Hilo, she was a clerk for the County of Hawaii’s Department of Finance, member of the Church of the Holy Apostles, and a volunteer for Toys for Tots, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and American Heart Association.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. April 9 at the Church of the Holy Apostles; celebration of life at 11. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Ryan Chilson; son, Sean Chilson; daughter, Arianna Chilson; hanai son, Mason Chilson; parents, Robert and Lola Loebl; sister, Stacia Burton; and niece, Bailee Burton, all of Hilo.
