Clarence Mendonca

Clarence Clayton “Clay” Mendonca, 85, of Hilo, died March 18, 2022, at her residence. Born in Hilo, he was a retired police officer with the Hawaii Police Department Community Relations Division and a D.A.R.E. officerl; U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and director of the Hilo Bowling Association.

Private services held. The family requests that flowers and koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Patricia Mendonca of Hilo; daughters, Nadine (Emerson) Akiona of Molokai and Cheryl (Leo) Mendonca-Abellera of Hilo; brothers, Jerry (Iris) Nascimento of Puerto Rico and W. Thomas (Donna) Foster of Hilo; sister, “CJ” (Ken) Kodani of Kurtistown; four granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucia Olivera

Lucia “Lucy” Milagros Lagadon Olivera, 77, of Mountain View, died March 10, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, she was a retired nursery worker for Winning Orchids in Mountain View, Anthuriums of Hawaii and West Coast Nursery; and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 16 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Graveside committal service will follow at the Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Ralph Olivera of Mountain View; sons, Mark (Renee) Olivera Sr. and Byron Olivera of Mountain View; daughter, Consuela Olivera of Mountain View; brother, Abraham Lagadon of Pahoa; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Annie Bailado

Annie Bailado, 97, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 25, 2022 at her residence. Born Dec in. 29, 1924, Keopu Mauka, she was a macadamia nut and coffee farmer; lauhala weaver; and member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Eucharistic Minister, South Kona Senior Citizens Club, Kamehameha School Cultural Advisory Group and Keauhou-Kahaluu Education Group of Kamehameha Schools.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 30 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. with burial to follow in the church’s cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by brother, Philip (Clementine) Pai of Honaunau; hanai sister, Mary Pai of Kailua-Kona; caregivers, Mahealani (Lofa) Pai of Kailua-Kona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
