Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Sunday morning fire that destroyed a structure in Ka‘u.

Responding to a 9:37 a.m. Sunday report, Hawaii Fire Department personnel and volunteer firefighters arrived at the scene on Koa Lane in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates to find a 1,600-square-foot structure engulfed in flames, according to a press release. The fire caused the single-story structure with a metal roof to collapse.

The fire was declared out at 12:15 p.m. The person residing in the structure was not home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
