Howard Narimatsu

Howard Takao Narimatsu, 69, of Hilo, died April 5, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an artist, Special Olympian, musician and member of the Boy Scouts of America.

Private services held. The family requests that flowers and koden (monetary offerings) be omitted.

He is survived by sisters, Edna Narimatsu, Priscilla (Robert) Gomez and Trisia Uchida; niece, Melissa (Kalen) Koga; grandnephews, Tyler Kaneshiro and Cole Kaneshiro; and numerous cousins, uncles and aunts.

Jeremy Mata

Jeremy Iokepa Mata, 34, of Wahiawa, Oahu, died March 25, 2022, at his residence. Born March 28, 1988, in Hilo, he was a construction worker for Gundaker Works, LLC.

Private services.

He is survived wife, Napualei Mata; children, Kaikea Mata, Kaimahni Mata, Kaikella Mata, Tzhiyen Mata, and Hezekiah Mata; father, Michael Henry (Stacy) Mata Jr.; mother, Audrey Ann Gonzales; brothers, Keoki (Candace) Gonzales, Keoni Mata, Travis (Shelly) Mata, and Joshua Mata; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lenora Kaniho

Lenora “Lee” Leialoha Kaniho, 71, of Hilo, died March 27, 2022 at her residence. Born July 26, 1950 in Waiki’i, she was a former certified nursing assistant and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call from noon to p.m. May 14 at Spencer Beach Park in Kawaihae for a celebration of life. Scattering of ashes to be held at a later date.

She is survived by, son, Charles (Benjaline) England; daughters, Penny (Joshua) Enos, Jadean England and Brooklyn England; brothers, Vernon (Rachel) Kaniho Sr. and Brent Kaniho; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Butler

Mary Louise Butler, 92, of Waimea, died March 13, 2022 at her residence. Born March 19, 1929 in Sacramento, California, she was a retired executive manager for AT&T.

Private service to be held in California.

She is survived by sons, James (Judith) McManus of Kailua-Kona and Greg (Vicki) McManus of Puako; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
