Hatsuko Ishii

Hatsuko Ishii, 90, of Pepeekeo, died March 23, 2022 in a private care home in Hilo. Born Feb. 5, 1932, in Pepeekeo, she worked as a receptionist for Drs. Sam Haraguchi, Rodney Ono and Don Matsuura and was a member of the Honomu Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. April 29 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo for a 3 p.m. service. Casual attire is requested. No flowers.

She is survived by son, Kevin (Laurie) Ishii of Hilo; daughter, Aline (Robert Wada) Ishii of Honolulu; sisters, Toshie (Edward) Shirota of Hilo, Hatsumi Kanellos of Chicago, and Sadako (Harold) Hashimoto of Pearl City, Oahu; sister-in-law, Ellen Kansako of Pearl City, Oahu; two grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Chizuko Nakamura

Chizuko M. Nakamura, 88, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 20, 2022 at her residence. Born Aug. 12, 1933, in Ookala, she was a retired secretary and member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Hana Kumiai, Kona Senior Karaoke Club and Kumamoto Kenjin Kai.

Private services held.

She is survived by sons, Aaron (Dee) Nakamura of Honolulu, and Alson (Margy) Nakamura and Vernon (Rae) Nakamura, all of Kailua-Kona; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Debra Mattioli

Debra E. “Debby” Mattioli, 64, of Holualoa, died Jan. 26, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Illinois, she was a pharmacist at Oshima Store.

Services held.

She is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Christine Ebanez

Christine Agan Ebanez, 70, of Hilo, died April 6, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was retired from the state Department of Public Safety Intake Service Center.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. service. Casual attire.

She is survived by daughter, Renee (Fred Collins) Ebanez of Hilo; sons, Ross (Moani Pomroy) Ebanez Jr. and Joseph (Daijah Pagay) Feliciano, all of Hilo, and Jacy (Kate) Feliciano of Honolulu; sister, Audrey (Wesley) Fujimoto of Honokaa; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marianne Manuel

Marianne Manuel, 94, of Naalehu, died April 12, 2022 at Ka’u Hospital. Born Aug. 26, 1927, in Waiaha, she was a retired utility worker at the former Kona Hilton Hotel and a member of Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart Catholic churches.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 29 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona; Mass at 10 a.m. followed by entombment at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Casual attire, no flowers.

She is survived by daughters, Marlene Haleamau of Kalaoa, Kona and Carleen (Tim) Montgomery of Baltimore; son, Beke Bob Manuel of Kalopa; son-in-law, Eric Llanes of Honolulu; sisters, Violet Vasconcelles of Honolulu and Carol Shamburger of Kalaoa, Kona; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Douglas Carr

Douglas Melrose Carr, 84, of Waikoloa Village died March 27, 2022. He was a retired fire captain of Kawaihae Fire Station.

Services will be announced at a later date

He is survived by spouse Sandra; son Douglas Carr Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia; daughters Malia Franklin of Denver and Maile Eddy of Chicago; and four grandchildren.

Shirley Bolton

Shirley Temple Bolton, 80, of Naalehu, died April 9, 2022 at her residence. Born July 31, 1941, in Gilbert, West Virginia, she was an entrepreneur and restaurateur.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by husband, Richard Bolton of Naalehu; son, Jim (Gemma) DeWitt of the Philippine Islands; daughters, Lorri Bolton and Rhonda Bolton-Ruggles, both of Naalehu; brother, Robert Carter of West Virginia; and four grandchildren.
