Five West Hawaii Special Olympics athletes competed Saturday at Imua Iron in the nonprofit’s first powerlifting competition since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.

Shawn Lehano, Kalei Lee, Zachary Trim and Quentin and Isaiah Wong competed in squats, bench press and deadlift with Isaiah lifting an impressive 420 pounds.

Lehano and Quentin Wong will be representing Hawaii in June at the Special Olympics U.S. Games being held in Orlando, Florida, in the powerlifting competition.

Quentin is the brother of Isaiah Wong who brought home a haul of medals from the Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles in 2015.

Isaiah received silver in squat with 180 kilograms, silver in bench with a 107.5 kilograms and gold in deadlift with 205 kilograms. Isaiah also won gold in a combination of all three lifts with 492.5 kilograms — which equals 1,094.5 pounds lifted.
