Robert Pestano Jr.

Robert Maneley Pestano Jr., 78, of Hilo, died April 12, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahala, he was a retired plant maintenance worker with Calavo Growers, member of the Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church and U.S. Army veteran.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 3 at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church Hall for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Committal service to follow at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Colleen Pestano of Hilo; son, Daniel Pestano of Hilo; step-son, Ryan Tabajunda of Hilo; step-daughter, Rochelle (Michael) Heidenfeldt of Mountain View; sisters, Angeline (Raymond) Moniz and Aileen (Robert) Mattos of Hilo and MaryLou Apo of Waiohinu; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elaine Lorenzo

Elaine “Enga” Wainani Lorenzo, 56, of Honokaa, died April 21, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1965, in Honokaa, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse and medical transportation for home health care services, personal assistance/habilitation (pab) program service worker for Arc of Kona; housekeeper for Mauna Kea Beach and Mauna Lani Resort hotels, and an entrepreneur in jewelry making, food catering services and owned Creative Florals in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 14 at Salvation Army Corps Chapel in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. service. Casual attire.

She is survived by life partner, Christopher Leimbach of Ocean View; sons, Dustin (Helena) Lorenzo Hoover, Danison Lorenzo Hoover and Dillon (Kela) Lorenzo Hoover, all of Honokaa; daughters, Shawntay (Kevin) Frankfather of Bradner, OH. and Sheyenne (Kyree) Lorenzo Hoover of Honokaa; mother, Pansy (Raymond) Kawabata of Honokaa; father of her children, Dondale Hoover of Ninole; brothers, Lawrence (Henny) Lorenzo, Samson Lorenzo; sister DeeDee (Thomas) Pahio, all of Honokaa; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara Palmer

Barbara Jean Palmer, 85, of Waikoloa, died March 20, 2022 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Nov. 27, 1936, in Kealakekua, she was a newspaper ad inserter at West Hawaii Today, a food waitress at the former Kona Hilton Hotel and a member of Sonlight Ministry.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. May 14 at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Clubhouse at Honokohau Harbor for a 10 a.m. celebration of life. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, James Perkins and Ronald Perkins, both of Waikoloa; daughters, Denette (Gerald) Gaspar of Nanakuli, Oahu, Laurie Ann (Steven) Mahelona of Kealakehe and Lisa (Alvin) Inouye of Captain Cook; step-daughters, Ebby Gleason of Kailua-Kona, Lynette Palmer of Kailua-Kona, and Leilani Palmer of Joshua Tree, California; sister, Janet Apiki of Nanakuli, Oahu; several great-grandchildren; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arnold Westphal

Arnold Frank Westphal, 86, of Hilo died April 14, 2022, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, he was a retired customer service personnel for the former Western Auto Store, member of Grace Baptist Church, Big Island Eagles Aerie #3642 and a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. May 5 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; service at 10:30. Burial to follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by daughters, Valerie Westphal and Pamela Westphal, both of Utah; step-children, Lorraine Bugado Ornellas of Hilo, and Richard (Cynthia) Bugado of Honomu; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Daniel Costa Jr.

Daniel “Boogie” Aloysius Costa Jr., 85, of Hilo died March 2, 2022 at his residence. Born in Hilo, he was a retired fire captain with the Honolulu Fire Department, sales associate at Sears Ala Moana, and a U.S. Marine Corps Korean War veteran.

Private services held.

He is survived by children, Yvette Broadhead of Wyoming and Derrick Costa of Honolulu; stepsons, Paul Nagata and Jason Savella both of Honolulu; brothers, Joseph (Laverne) Costa of Hilo, Robert (Rossann) DeCosta of Kahaluu, Oahu; sister, Audrey DeMello of Hilo; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
