Shooting ranges

Really, this is the best use of our tax dollars? A shooting range to benefit a small portion of the county’s population. We need money for schools, infrastructure, tax relief for locals. One can probably think of many other uses for our tax money that have a higher priority. Understanding that hunting is a large local activity if a range is needed let the gun owners lease some land somewhere and set up their range. At their expense. We need more gun ownership reform, not more gun ranges. The county or state should not be promoting gun ownership in 2022.

Fall of America

America will last only around 200 years (allegedly) according to the Tytler Cycle by historian Lord Alexander Fraser Tytler. So, have we proven him wrong or are we simply overdue?

It does look bleak. We are so divided that we react with instant rage and/or snobbish arrogance to differing opinions (though differences are what made us great). Thus, our politicians have largely given up on solutions. They simply appease an ever more angry than hopeful electorate with money that the government does not have. We would solve more if we talked kindly.

Instead, we are fleeing in circles atop massive sandcastles of debt and blind to the onrushing tsunami.

Rather than Build Back Better or Make America Great Again (both slogans acknowledge our decline), we need to be kind to one another again. If we do, instead of a hard fall, we may get a soft landing. Boldly Embrace Kindness.

A letter to the president

OK Joe, let’s do something now that will work. Call Pope Francis and arrange for him to meet you at the Polish/Ukrainian border on Wednesday. Have him bring his Popemobile and together you two lead a convoy of buses to Mariupol, pick up the refugees, and bring them to safety. Certainly, if Zelenskyy can find the courage to face Putin alone, you guys can recruit the needed drivers among the leadership of NATO.

If we are to save the planet, restore humanity, and assure justice for all, this is how it will happen. History will remember well the twilight years of two old men. Otherwise, there won’t be anyone left to record it, or to read it.
