For the second straight day, the Waveriders struggled to get their bats going.
On Wednesday, the Sabers of Campbell High School defeated Kealakehe 11-1 at McKinley High School, knocking the Waveriders out of the HHSAA Division I state tournament.
Kamehameha-Hawaii 17, Kaimuki 1
Kamehameha had the best debut in the 2022 HHSAA state tournament so far of any BIIF team, recording 19 hits in a five-inning blowout over the Bulldogs of Kaimuki in their D-II first-round matchup at Patsy Mink Field in Maui.
Kamehameha’s Emily Hora got the win in the circle, striking out seven while allowing just three hits in five innings.
Seven Warriors – Kashiwa Ili, Rhian Ogawa, Jeyla Bettis-Shigeishi, Rebekah Sipinga, KeanuMarie Huihui, Napualaiku Ho and Kailee Wagner – had multiple hits in the game. Huihui led the team with five RBI, followed by Ho with four.
7-2 Kamehameha moves onto the D-II quarterfinals Friday, where No. 3 seed Waipahu (14-1) awaits. First pitch at Patsy Mink Field is scheduled for 12 p.m.
Aiea 17, Honokaa 0
The Dragons were held to just one hit on Wednesday as Na Ali’I of Aiea cruised to a big win in Wednesday’s D-II first-round contest.
Iliana Kaiamakini notched the lone hit of the day for Honokaa. The Dragons will face Kaimuki Thursday in the consolation bracket; first pitch at Patsy Mink Field is scheduled for 10 a.m.
