COVID-19 cases continue to decline for both the Big Island and the state.
Just over 8,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported statewide over the last seven days, with Hawaii County reporting 841 new cases, a decrease of 125 cases from the week prior.
Eight new deaths were reported statewide this week, one less than last week. One death occurred in Hawaii County, a male between the ages of 50 and 59.
According to Department of Health data, 8,033 new cases were reported in Hawaii between June 1 and Wednesday, a decrease of 891 cases from the week prior.
The new statewide active case count over the past 14 days is 15,282, a decrease from 15,826 listed last week.
The state’s seven-day average of new cases was reported at 1,085, a decrease from 1,210 listed on June 1.
This is the first decrease in seven-day averages for the state in over two months.
While total case numbers continue to fall, the state’s average positivity rate increased from 18.4% last week to 19.2% this week.
The death toll for the state is now 1,426, with Hawaii County reporting a death toll of 193 throughout the pandemic.
