Pauline Pavao

Pauline Hanae Pavao, 71, of Hilo, died May 5, 2022 at her residence. Born in Pepeekeo, she was administrator of the Hilo Interim Home/ Family Intervention Services and a member of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou church.

Private services held. Family requests koden (monetary offerings) be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou.

She is survived by husband, Steven Pavao of Hilo; son, Gavin Pavao of Hilo; daughter, Tiffany (Jeryd) Teramoto of Hilo; brother, Randy Chinen of Keaau; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Carolyn Mohn

Carolyn Paula Mohn, 83, of Volcano, died May 20, 2022, at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Jan. 12, 1939, in Moline, Illinois, she was retired from Hawaiian Flour Mill (HFM) in Honolulu.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by partner, Robert Clague of Volcano; sister, Mary Sue (Arthur) Mohn Gee of Tacoma, Washington; one niece; and one nephew.

Bernaldo Billena

Bernaldo “Bernard” Bernie” Billena, 78, of Hilo died June 7, 2022, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Laupahoehoe, he was a retired firefighter for the Hawaii Fire Department and a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial to follow at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Marilyn Billena of Hilo; sons, Derrick Billena and Chadwick Billena, both of Hilo; siblings, Loretta Nitura of Waipunalei, Adeline Saldua of Papaikou, Trinidad (Henry) Real of Keaau, Gloria Sanchez of Honokaa, Roland Billena of Kapehu, Richard (Patsy) Billena of Wahiawa, Oahu, and Erlinda Walker of Hilo; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vanessa Salomon

Vanessa Day (Lapinig) Salomon, 60, of Hilo, died June 2, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct, 30, 1961 in Hilo, she was a teacher’s aide at various preschools in Hilo, worked for the after-school care at Connections Public Charter School, a childcare provider, Zumba instructor, and member of New Hope – Hilo.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. July 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 2 p.m. July at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section, for graveside services. Casual attire.

She is survived by spouse, Chris Salomon; children, Tessie (Pancipanci) Fontes and Tyris Salomon; stepson, Desdond Bagolar; mother, Veronica Bibilone; grandmother, Trinidad Bibilone; siblings, Carrie (Telson Chang) Lapinig, Neal Lapinig, Dominic (Marieta) Lapinig and Jay Lapinig; caregiver/niece, Chelstine Kimura-Lapinig; four grandchildren; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kelcey Bungula

Kelcey Lee Bungula, 47, of Hilo, died June 14, 2022 in Hilo. Born June 26, 1974, he was a member of the Pahoa Assembly of God and the Hilo Church of God.

Private services held.

He is survived by brothers, Albert Bungula Jr. of Kalapana, Alex Soares of Texas, and Robert Bungula of Kalapana; sister, Sandy Pereira of Kalapana; aunt, Charotte lewi-Hinomiya of Hilo; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
