Charmaine Avery

Charmaine Rose Avery, 69, of Ocean View, died June 26, 2022 at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Sept. 7, 1952, in Lansing, Michigan, she was a retired cook.

Private services.

She is survived by son, Dawson (Leslie Llanes) Avery of Ocean View; daughter, Jessica (D.J.) Akana of Ka’u; and eight granchildren.

George Andrade Jr.

George “Squeaky” Andrade Jr., 74, of Keaau, died July 1, 2022 at his residence. Born in Lahaina, Maui, he was a retired assistant fiscal officer for the Maui County Department of Water Supply.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by spouse, Judith Andrade of Keaau; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Chun

Kenneth Mun Wai Chun, 102, died June 16, 2022, in Hilo. Born on May 14, 1920, in Waiahole, Oahu, he retired from Pearl Harbor Shipyard, delivered meals for Hawaii Meals on Wheels for over 30 years, volunteered with Hospice Hawaii, Kuakini Hospital, Makiki District Park, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, and Kamehameha, Mid-Pacific, Iolani, and Punahou schools, and was a member of Manoa Valley Church.

Friends may call at from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 13 at Manoa Valley Church in Honolulu for a service and reception. No flowers or monetary gifts. Donations can be made to Manoa Valley Church, Hawaii Meals on Wheels or a charity of choice.

He is survived by children Alan (Terry), Calgary, Janis (Milton) Kalua, all of Hilo, and Alycia Case, Sonoma, California; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Sandra Sato

Sandra Leiko Sato, 64, of Hilo, died June 27, 2022 in the Hilo Medical Center. Born July 25, 1957, in Lihue, Kauai, she retired from Suisan Co., Ltd. as an accounting clerk.

Private services will be held on Kauai.

She is survived by brother, Clifton (Joyce) Sato of Lihue, Kauai; sister, Arlene Sato of Honolulu; and numerous aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Reiko Masutomi

Reiko Masutomi, 89, of Hilo, died June 9, 2022 at her residence. Born Sept. 1, 1932, in Holualoa, she was a retired fourth-grade teacher for the state Department of Education at Waiakea Waena School in Hilo and member of the Church of the Holy Cross, Kula Wahine Golf Club and Kamana Senior Center.

Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by husband, Benjamin Masutomi of Hilo; daughter, Leora (Jerry) Sunada of Lomita, California; sons, Dean Masutomi of Hilo and Daniel (Camille) Masutomi of Honolulu; sisters, Sumako Murakami of Honolulu and Jean Marciel of Kaneohe, Oahu; brother, Gerald (Sandra) Kinro of Kaneohe, Oahu; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Geoffrey Arai

Geoffrey Tsuyoshi Arai, 60, of Hilo, died June 27, 2022 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Facility. Born June 23, 1962, in Hilo, he worked as a drywall installer and a cook for the former Su-Mi’s Lunch Shop and Paramount Grill in Hilo.

Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

He is survived by mother, Susan Arai of Hilo; sisters, Rochelle Arai of Hilo and Pamela Arai of Hilo; nephew, Jonathan Arai of Honolulu; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
