Shout out! Mahalo plenty! To Tommy “Kahikina” Ching, a.k.a. our “Polynesian Pirate.” Kona’s own Hawaiian treasure. He blesses us with his good old fashion, charming local wit, and common sense. His brotherly aloha, caring and dedication to our community is greatly appreciated.
Kahikina is always there to lend his name and good will, emcee a parade, or lead a fundraising charge for the Hawaii Island United Way (HIUW), Food Bank, or Cop On Top, etc.
He’s a pupule kanaka that bleeds love … Kahikina, you da best! You continue to make the Big Island No Ka ‘Oi.

The word ‘testifiers’
A person who speaks after being given an oath is a witness, if at a legal proceeding, or a speaker, if at a public meeting. Testifier is not a recognized word, in common parlance, even if it is in the dictionary. Testimony is a statement of personal knowledge, not a statement of opinion, and people who speak at public meetings, most of them NIMBYs, are merely expressing opinions that anything the government does will lower their property values. To call such people “testifiers” is to accord them greater gravitas than they deserve.

Why is there so much mudslinging?
Dennis Gregory brought up a good point in his opinion last Thursday. Why is there so much mudslinging?
Mudslinging is tearing someone else down to build themselves up. Instead, tell me why I should vote for you, what you are good for and what you would do if elected. Why would I vote for someone who does not do this?
At least by mudslinging, you have pointed out that at least the other person has done something. When all you do is tell me the bad parts of someone else and tells me nothing about themselves, I think to myself, if this person got elected, they would accomplish nothing because that is what is on their resume, nothing, no accomplishments or how they would make things better or what would they do if elected. I would like to thank the mudslingers for making up my mind who to vote for, definitely not them.
