Jack Muck

Jack Philip Muck, 64, of Keaau, died July 25, 2022, in Islamabad, Pakistan. Born in Pasadena, Calif., he worked in many countries, including Copper River Enterprises Services as a contractor at the American Embassy in Pakistan.

Visitation 4-5 p.m. Aug. 26 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; service at 5. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Aiti Muck; sons, Keanu Muck and John Muck; daughter, Mary Muck; brothers, Chuck (Joanne) Muck and Jerry (Jennifer) Messina; sister, Gladys (Bill) Thorpe; three nieces;l and five nephews.

Janice Valterria

Janice Marie Valterria, 74, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 8, 2022 at her residence. She was born June 24, 1948, in Buffalo, NY.

She is survived by son, Thomas; daughter, Meridith; brothers, Harold and Paul; sister, Joan; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Adam Jared Larken and Gabriel Conrad Larkin

Adam Jared Larkin, 16, and Gabriel Conrad Larkin, 14, of Mountain View, died Aug. 11, 2022, at Haena/Shipman Beach.

A public celebration of life will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. at Wheadon Farm Park Pavilion , 13800 S. 440 E. Draper, UT, 84020. Attendees are asked to put their thoughts into a short email or note to adamgabriellarkin@gmail.com or bring them to the celebration. All notes will be added to special receptacles for each of the boys on September 3rd.

Charles Lindsey III

Charles “Biggie” Robert Lindsey III, 78, of Hilo, died July 31, 2022, at his residence. Born Dec. 30, 1943, in Honolulu, he was retired from the former Hawaiian Telephone Co., a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Waikiki Surf Club, Keaukaha Canoe Club, GTE Employees Association Canoe Club, Hanakahi Canoe Club and Elks Club.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 2 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. service. Graveside committal service follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 pavilion. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Lavaina Lindsey of Hilo; children, Sui Lan (Tyra) Wong of Honolulu, Charles Lindsey IV of Hilo, Charla (Russell) Crabbe of Waimea, Charlin (Tom) DeCoito of Hilo; daughter-in-law, Mari Anthony of Hilo; sister, Kathleen Lilinoe Lindsey of Honolulu; brothers-in-law, Norman Kanakanui of Hilo, and Norman Kaleo of Honolulu; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Norman Dubbs

Norman Elston Dubbs, 92, of Kailua-Kona, died June 10, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 20, 1929, in North Fruitdale, Oregon, he was a retired charter skipper and boat inspector at the Honokohau Harbor.

He is survived by daughter, Jennifer (Jeffrey) McDaniel of Kailua-Kona; and grandson, Austin McDaniel of Kailua-Kona.

Shizue Miura

Shizue “Sue” Miura, 101, of Pahoa, died July 29, 2022, at his residence. Born Oct. 22, 1920, in Hilo, she was the retired proprietress of the former S. Miura Store in Pahoa, and retired from K’s Drive-In in Hilo as a counter helper.

Private service held. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by son, Sidney Miura of Pahoa; daughters, Leatrice (Gerald) Santo of Richland, Washington and Gladys Miura of Pahoa; brother, Suemori Shimasaki of Virginia; daughter-in-law, June Miura of Pahoa; sisters-in-law, Setsuko Shimasaki of Hilo, Sachiko Shimasaki of Hilo, Lynn Shimasaki of California and Harue Shimasaki of Hilo; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Donald Paz

Donald “Don” “Donny” James Paz, 71, of Keaau formerly of Wahiawa, Oahu, died Aug. 11, 2022 at his residence. Born April 6, 1951 in Waialua, he was a retired installer for Hawaiian Sign and Design and a former police officer for the Honolulu Police Department.

Ellen Leilani Caitano, 75, of Hawi, died Aug. 20, 2022 in Waimea. Born June 30, 1947, in Kohala, she worked as a legal secretary.

Mildred Kabalis

Mildred Kabalis, 87, of Hilo, died Aug. 1, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 16, 1934, in Honolulu, she was a bartendress at Orchid Island Hotel, hostess at Ken’s House of Pancakes, assistant manager at Vision Quest and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by sons, Derek (Petrona Sampaga) Valentino, Rudy (Ruth) Valentino, and Sodie (Carla) Kabalis; daughter Joslyn Kabalis; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

James Miura

James Akio Miura, 83, of Hilo died on July 29, 2022, at a private care home. Born in Pahala, he was a PBX Technician for the former Hawaiian Tel, patron of K’s Drive In and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers or koden (monetary gifts).

He is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Nora Nabeta

Nora Natsue Nabeta, 92, of Hilo, died Nov. 19, 2021 at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. She was born in Hilo and was a retired teacher with the State of Hawaii, Dept. of Education and was also a member of Community of Christ and the Hilo Yacht Club.

Survived by sister-in-law, Mildred Nabeta of California; and several nieces and nephews.

Cristito Tiogangco Jr.

Cristito Tiogangco Jr., 75, of Hilo died April 17, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 7, 1946, in Ka‘u, he was a U.S. Army veteran, retired laborer from Isemoto Contracting and a member of Hawaii Laborers Union Local 368, Vietnam Veterans, and Akamu/Maele geneology.

A celebration of life will be held Sept. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Aja Veterans Center, 361 Haihai St, Hilo.

He is survived by wife, Celeste Tiogangco of Hilo; hanai son, Bronson Silva; hanai daughter, Brittany Silva; brothers, Truman (June) Ignacio, Melvin (Pam) Tiogangco, Gabriel Tiogangco, Richard Tiogangco, Daylan (Paula) Tiogangco, Dayton Tiogangco, Grant Tiogangco; brothers-in-law, Alvin Ahuna, Harold Swain; sisters, Lovey Scott, Elizabeth Cadabona, Mabel (Dexter) Chaves, Joahan Tiogangco, Luana (Markham) Rosehill, Joyce (John) Nalimu, and Joni (Kalan) Wong; sisters-in-law, Naomi (Ahuna) Campbell and Annie Tiogangco; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joseph Correa Jr.

Joseph “Joe” A. Correa Jr. 85, died Aug. 12, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, sole proprietor of Joe Correa Realty Inc. and was associated with the Hilo Board of Realtors, and an active bowler of several bowling leagues.

He is survived by wife, Carol Correa of Hilo; children, Curtis Correa Hilo, Roxane (Peter) Nakamura and Desiree (Wayne) Alices of Keaau; sister, Eleanor Wond of Molokai; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Earl Mitsuo Yempuku, 70, of Hilo, died Aug. 18, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 18, 1952, in Honolulu, he was the CEO for Honua Landscaping Inc., founder of Hawaii Island Landscapers Association and member of Hawaii Island Contractors Association.
