Florence Ebisuzaki

Florence Sadako Ebisuzaki, 88, of Papaikou, died Sept. 19 at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born in Keaau and was the co-proprietor of the former Ebisuzaki Fishing Supply and was also a participant at the Hawaii Island Adult Care Center.

Private services held. No koden (monetary donations).

Survived by her daughters, Ann (Roger) Imoto and Corinne Ebisuzaki; brother, Ronald (Elsie) Koi; sisters, Margaret Hironaka and Harriet Rebuldela; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces &nephews.

Edwin Kaneshiro

Edwin Eichi Kaneshiro, 88, of Hilo, died Sept. 25 at home. He was born in Kukuihaele and was a retired produce manager with the former Food Fair Supermarket and was also a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and the Hilo Hoyukai.

Private services were held. No koden (monetary donations).

Survived by wife, Janice Kaneshiro of Hilo; son, Aaron (Edith) Kaneshiro of Hilo; step-son, Phillip (Anabel Bueno) Hirose of Albuquerque, N.M.; step-daughters, Caroline Tammy (Clayton) Amuro and Margaret Toni (Marvin) Min of Hilo; brother-in-law, Robert Nagamine of Hilo; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Stephen Irvine

Stephen E. Irvine, 70, of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Pahoa, died Sept. 25, 2022, at his residence. Born in Los Angeles, he was an accomplished painter and prolific artist, with artwork in both private and public collections, including the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts Public Art Collection.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at New Hope Puna.

He is survived by wife, Andrea Irvine; brothers, Robert (Tawnie) Irvine and Barry (Cyndi) Irvine; and sister, Wendy Turpin.

Leialoha-o-Hamakua Kon-Kahakai

Leialoha-o-Hamakua Kanakanui David Kon-Kahakai, 24, of Puna, died Sept. 8, 2022, at his residence.

Public viewing from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, funeral service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Celebration of life at 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at Ohana Kon residence in Maku’u.

He is survived by son, Lawai’a Quidachay, mother, Amber (Kenji Horiuchi) Kon, father, Zachary Kahakai; brother, Kupono (Kaleolani Poepoe) Kon-Kahakai, sisters, Leimana (Jared Gonzales) Kon-Kahakai, Hunakapu (Alika Bassette) Kon-Kahakai, and Naomi Horiuchi; a great-great grand uncle; grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Celine Carreira

Celine M. Carreira, 83, of Kaaawa, died Sept. 10, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born Aug. 19, 1939.

Private services held.

She is survived by four sons; one daughter; in addition to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
