Waikoloa Road safety improvements to begin Monday

The Hawaii County Department of Public Works Traffic and Highway Maintenance Divisions will be preparing the Waikoloa Road and Paniolo Avenue intersection for safety improvements.

Expect delays and one-lane traffic during the work starting Monday and continuing through Dec. 9. Work subject to change, and is weather permitting.

The county is adding calming devices such as flashing stop signs, flashing intersection warning signs, speed tables, road markings and zig-zag striping to the busy South Kohala intersection.

Work starts Monday with removal and installation of traffic signs and marking. On Oct. 25 and 26, crews plan to install and paint two speed tables and temporary markings. On Nov. 30, crews will install rectangular rapid flash beacons followed by installing permanent striping on Dec. 1. The beacons will be activited between Dec. 1 and 9. December 1:
