Wayne Takao Onomura, 78, of Hilo, died Sept. 14, 2022, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired Hawaii County Building Division Chief, licensed structural engineer, graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, served as Captain in the U.S. Army and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Basic Missile Man Badge.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or refreshments.
He is survived by wife, Marie Onomura of Hilo; daughters, Michelle (Al) Kakazu and Tammy Burks of Honolulu; siblings, Gertrude (Terry) Kishimoto, Lionel (Naomi) Onomura and Leilani Nakamura of California; and three grandchildren.
