Hawaii Prep advances to quarterfinals; No. 2 Konawaena to play tonight

The Hawaii Prep Ka Makani girls volleyball defeated the Lanai High School Pine Lasses Tuesday in the first round of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association volleyball state championships in Honolulu.

The unseeded Ka Makani topped the Pine Lasses in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-20 and 25-7 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Hawaii Prep (13-4 in BIIF Division II play) was led by Parker Lewis with 17 kills, one ace and one block followed by Margo Lewis with 13 kills and three aces and Elaina Head’s six kills and one block.

The team next faces the winner of No. 1 seed Le Jardin tonight at 7 p.m. in Honolulu.

Also at 7 p.m., No. 2 seed Konawaena will take on the winner of the matchup between Hawaii Baptist and Kailua High School, which had yet to conclude as of press-time.

The Wildcats (14-2 in BIIF Division II play) defeated the Ka Makani to claim the BIIF Division II title on Oct. 18.
