Konawaena’s Satta-Ellis is 2022 Heisman High School Scholarship State Winner

A Konawaena High School football player was named the 2022 Heisman High School Scholarship State Winner Friday.

Torrance “Ro‘o” Satta-Ellis, a senior defensive back, corner back and kicker for the Wildcats who also competes in cross country and track and field, will receive a $1,000 scholarship with the win.

Satta-Ellis will find out if he is a finalist for the national award, which comes with a $10,000 scholarship, today. The national winner will be announced Nov. 30.

Meanwhile, Emma Burgess, a track and cross country athlete at Kauai High School, was announced as the female State Winner.

Burgess and Satta-Ellis are two of over 5,700 school winners since the program’s inception in 1994. The annual award is given to the most outstanding prep players on and off the field.

The two were among the 20 school winners from Hawaii. Also earning recognition from the Big Island was Hilo High School’s Kaylee Yamada and Kai Hayashida.
