Paul Martin

Paul Dean Martin, 52, of New Orleans, Louisiana and formerly of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 6, 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born Jan. 7, 1970 in Juneau, Alaska he was a Hotel Night Auditor in New Orleans, Louisiana, a Customer Services Representative for HMSA/Bishop Company and a teller at CU Hawaii Federal Credit Union in Kailua-Kona. No local services. He is survived by mother, Julie Martin, and sister, Linda Martin, of Kailua-Kona, his sister Sherry Martin and brother David Martin of Washington State, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sandra Wheiler

Sandra Lee Wheiler, 77, of Pahoa, died Nov. 18, 2022. Born March 24, 1945, in San Diego, she was a retired waitress. Private services held. She is survived by husband, Robert Wheiler, of Pahoa; daughter, Cheri Lee Webb of Portland, OR; father, Neal Christensen of Walla Walla, WA; brother, Jim Paquette of Palmer, AK; sister, Gale Williams of Menitee, CA; 2 grandchildren; and numerous aunts and cousins. Pacita Cabatu

Pacita C. Cabatu, 83, of Papaaloa, died Oct. 15, 2022 at residence. Born May 9, 1939, in Abra, Philippines; she was a hotel housekeeper and member of the St. Anthony Church in Papaaloa. Services will be held at a later date. She is survived by children, Amante Sori, Almer Soria, Alec Soria, Atanael (Jinna Spidell) Soria, Aljune Soria, Rudy Cabatu, Kristine Salvador and Mary Bona all from Hawaii; one brother and two sisters from the Philippines, numerous grandchildren. Alton Murakane

Alton “Mana” Manabu Murakane, 82, of Honokaa, died Sept. 29, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kapulena, he was a retired building construction maintenance supervisor for the State of Hawaii Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS) and Staff Sergeant and veteran of the U.S. Army and Hawaii Army National Guard. Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 17 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Honokaa for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. He is survived by wife, Glenda Murakane of Honokaa; sons, James (Heanu) Weller Jr. of Hilo, Matthew (Tootsie) Weller of Waimea, Wesley (Traci) Murakane of Honokaa; daughters, Roslyn Murakane of Maui, Michelle Murakane and Melisa Murakane of Honokaa; brother, Oran (Corliss) Murakane of Honokaa; sisters, Kumiko Nakashima, Amy Aoyagi and Corliss Hirae of Hilo, Kathleen New of Las Vegas, Karen Yamaoka of Honolulu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Daniel Perreira

Daniel Thomas Perreira, 73, of Waimea, died Nov. 7, 2022, at his residence. Born in Haina, Honokaa, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic for the County of Hawaii, worked for the former Hamakua Sugar Company and a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea. Visitation from 9-10 a.m. Dec. 10, at the Annunciation Catholic Church; memorial Mass at 10. Casual attire. He is survived by wife, Dora Perreira of Waimea; children, Danrick (Kelly) Perreira of Las Vegas, Donavan (Apple) Perreira of Kona, Randy (Melodee Bumanglag) Soares Honokaa, Richard Soares Jr. of Waimea; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Helen Roman

Helen Mililani Lindsey Roman, 101, of Hilo died Nov. 16, 2022, at her home. Born in South Kohala, she was a homemaker and member of the Hilo Women’s Club. Private services held. Valintin Alnas Sr.

Valintin Alnas Sr., 89, of Paauhau, died Nov. 17 at home. He was born in Paauhau and was a retired baker with the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort and previously was a mill worker for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., was also a member of the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, member of the Hilo KATS Softball Team, ILWU Fast Pitch Softball Team, Assistant Coach for the Honokaa High School girls softball team in 1976, and helped to coordinate the construction of the Honokaa Swimming Pool. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Shirley Alnas of Paauhau; son, Raymond (Candace) Alnas of Waikoloa; daughters, Cristina (Timothy) Smith of Kalopa and Dana (Timothy) Costa of Honolulu; sisters, Mary (John) Welch of Arizona and Emily (Roy) Oshiro of California; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Paul Toraichi Sasaki, 50, of Pepeekeo, died Nov. 1, 2022, in Las Vegas. He was born in Hawaii and was a plumber, lifeguard, surfer and world traveler, loved photography, sports, appreciated the Bible and was an avid reader of Greek and Roman history. Private services held. He is survived by daughter, Kylie Ann Sasaki of Hilo; son, Kyle Paul Sasaki of Hilo; mother, Katherine Kolovos Sasaki of Pepeekeo; brother, Daniel (Carey) Sasaki of Honolulu; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Daniel “Danny” Kapoo Paleka Jr., 58, of Kurtistown, died Nov. 8, 2022 at home. Born on Jan. 11, 1964 in Wailuku, he was a former Adult Corrections Officer for the State Department of Public Safety, Corrections Division and a Union Business Agent for the U.P.W. (United Public Workers), a former Puna District County Council member; Member on the Board of Directors for the County Fire Commission and B.I.S.A.C. (Big Island Substance Abuse Council); and Board Member for Hawaii Rise Foundation. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 10 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; memorial service at 5 p.m. Casual attire. He is survived by, wife, Susanne Paleka; mother, Carolyn Paleka; siblings, Raymond (Gladys) Grillot, Alaka’i (Chyna) Paleka, Donny (Tami) Kimi, Dallen (Laurie) Paleka, Kaui Paleka-Kama, Kim Kimi (Mikee), Kealoha (Mike) Nearman, Rolande Paleka-Kennedy and Michael Haleakala. Erika Lokilani Boyd, 50, of Mountain View, died Nov. 9, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 28, 1972 in Honolulu,sShe was the owner of Boyd Hawaii LLC Catering and a member of Connect Point Church in Hilo. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 10 at Connect Point Church, 168 Holomua Street, Hilo; celebration of life at 11 a.m. Casual attire (preferably green) and no flowers.
