Rotary Club of Kona Mauka meets Jan. 3

Hawaii County’s director of the Department of Environmental Management will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kona Maunka meeting at noon Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Tashima Restaurant in Honalo.

Ramzi Mansour leads the county department that has the responsibility of continuous performance of all matters relating to sewer operation and maintenance of five sewer systems; solid waste disposal and landfill programs; vehicle disposal; and all other environmental projects, including recycling programs of the county.

VFW Kona Post 12122 announces January events

The VFW Kona Post 12122 hosts an array of meals and meetings for veterans and friends during January at its location on Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona.

On Mondays, the Post offers hamburgers/cheeseburgers with chips for $8. On Tuesdays, in celebration of Taco Tuesday, the Post offers three chicken, ground beef, or pork on hard or soft tortillas with rice and beans for $12. Friday night dinners are also $12 with Muriel’s Friday Night Dinner of beef stroganoff, salad and dessert on Jan. 6, Mel and Rod’s stuffed chicken thighs, salad, corn, dessert on Jan. 13, Commander’s Dinner of Hawaiian beef stew, rice, roll, dessert on Jan. 20, and Tracy and Scott’s Onion Burgers, salad, and dessert on Jan. 27. All meals are dine-in or take-out, and served from 4 to 6 p.m.

On Sundays, the Post hosts its Sunday Football Brunch at 11 a.m. for $8.

The Post will hold its monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 14. On the following Saturday, Jan. 21, the Kona Auxiliary 12122 will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Civil Air Patrol, Kona Composite Squadron meets Tuesdays

The Civil Air Patrol, Kona Composite Squadron, meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the Civil Air Patrol building at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole.

The building is located on the south side of the airport, across from the Aloha Cargo building. The Civil Air Patrol is a federally chartered non-profit corporation that is also the Air Force auxiliary. CAP’s mission is supporting America’s communities with emergency response, diverse aviation and ground services, youth development and promotion of air, space and cyber power through aerospace education.
