West Hawaii Fishery Council meets Thursday

The West Hawaii Fishery Council will be conducting its 2023 planning meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. as a hybrid event at NELHA and over Zoom.

Aloha Quilters to gather Saturday

The Aloha Quilters will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Queen Emma Center, Christ Church, in Kealakekua.

Linda Mackay will present a slide show,”For the Birds,” of 89 pieces of fiber artwork by members of Fibre Art Network of western Canada. Linda is a fiber artist and painter who works in many media including stitch and fabric dye. This program promises to be an inspiration for artists, quilters, and art lovers.

This event is open to everyone including new members, novice quilters, or ”old hands.”

Meeting set on transient accommodation rental proposal

Council members Ashley Kierkiewicz (Puna) and Heather Kimball (Hamakua), and the Hawaii County Department of Planning will hold a second informational session on the draft transient accommodation rental proposal.

West Hawaii County Band presents first free concert of 2023

The West Hawaii County Band will present an hour of free band music in first monthly Free Concert Series on 2023 at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The 20 members of the band, led by guest director Richard Shields, will present an hour of free band music including pieces made famous by the likes of Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra as well as a real, honest-to-goodness circus march by K.L King and a more traditional march by J.P. Sousa. The band will also honor the Hawaiian tradition with tunes arranged by Bud Dant including “Beautiful Kahana” and “Big Island Anthem,” and more.
