Multi-media artist Kathleen Jaeger will be featured at the Kailua Village Artists Gallery during February with her creations in mosaics, acrylics and paper mache.

Having been trained as both an art teacher (holding a lifetime teaching certificate in art for grades K-12 in the state of Missouri) and as an art therapist (registered with the American Art Therapy Association), Jaeger knows how powerful the act of creating can be and have witnessed it both with her students and within herself, which can be quite dramatic and cathartic.

In her personal work, Jaeger finds herself being affected by events of the world, her life and those around her, although they do not become the focus, nor is my art a literal illustration of such things. In processing them, they seem to have an influence.

“I usually begin with a rough idea of an image in my head and have already determined what medium would best to use. At some point, especially when painting, the image itself seems to take over. There have been times when a piece is finished that I am somewhat surprised at the finished product. I let the image evolve and be what it is,” she said.

Jaegar will be working at the gallery on Fridays, Feb. 3, 17 and 24. The Kailua Village Artists Gallery is located in the Kona Marketplace in Kailua-Kona. It is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
