Shigeno Kawamoto

Shigeno “Shirley” Kawamoto, 91, of Papaikou, died Jan. 7, 2023 at her residence. Born in Ninole on Aug. 30, 1931, she worked at Edith’s Dress Shop and Smartwear before retiring as a sales clerk at JCPenny in Hilo, a member of the Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Kamana Senior Center and an avid bowler. Private services held. She is survived by sons, Floyd (Lauren Oie) Kawamoto of Hilo and Earl Kawamoto of Papaikou; daughter, Lois (George Makua) Giraud of Hilo; brother: Harold Oba of San Gabriel, California; sisters, Harriet Huber of Henderson, Nevada, Gladys Lopez of Hilo and Karen (Richard Davis) Oba of San Diego; brothers-in-law, Tsutomu Kawamoto of Hilo and Raymond (Diane) Kawamoto of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Helen Oba of Hilo and Lillian Kawamoto of Kaneohe, Oahu; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; an aunt; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Kaoru Kikuchi

Kaoru “Nancy” Kikuchi, 102, of Hilo died Dec. 27, 2022, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Lahaina, Maui, she worked for the former Sakai and Takahashi Accounting, Mauna Loa Mac Nut and was a member of the Hilo Hooganji Mission. Private services held. Family requests no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). She is survived by children, Bill (Bobbi) Kikuchi of Hilo, Louise Kikuchi Hiraoka of Seattle, Washington; sisters, Mitsue Fukuda of Mililani, Mae Kaleikau of Mililani; sister-in-law, Sally Takahama of Lanai; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy Awa

Roy Hideo Awa, 66, of Hilo died Dec. 17, 2022 at his residence. He was born on Oahu. Private services will take place on Oahu at a later date. He is survived by siblings, Stanford Awa, Richard Awa, Jeannette Dela Cruz, and Yvonne Catekista, all of Oahu; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
