Coffee With a Cop events set

West Hawaii residents are invited to attend three Coffee With a Cop events this month in Kona for an opportunity to get to know their district police officers. These popular events are intentionally informal with no agenda. Topics of conversation can range from sharing personal stories to discussing neighborhood issues.

Stop by and get to know your district and Community Police Officers over a cup of coffee; discuss topics of mutual interest and concern.

• Wednesday, Feb. 8, 8 to 10 a.m. at Kona Haven Coffee Co. in Kailua-Kona.

• Friday, Feb. 17, 8 to 10 a.m. at Kona Mountain Coffee Co. in Kailua-Kona.

• Friday, Feb. 24, 8 to 10 a.m. at Kona Coffee and Tea, in Kailua-Kona.

Road work prompts lane closures this week islandwide

Lane closures for road work, vegetation cutting and other maintenance efforts are slated around the island this week, according to the state Department of Transportation.

• On Kuakini Highway, plan for single-lane closures possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile marker 114, near West Honalo Road, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for drainage improvements.

• On Mamalahoa Highway, expect single-lane closures possible in either direction between mile markers 44 and 46, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting in the area of Pahala.

• On Kohala Mountain Road, plan for single-lane closures in either direction between mile markers 5 and 9, vicinity of the Koaiʻa Tree Sanctuary to past the Kohala Ranch Road, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for shoulder stabilization.

• On Hawaii Belt Road, Route 19, plan for single-lane closures in either direction between mile markers 10 and 14, Kulaimano Road to vicinity of Kolekole Beach Park, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for vegetation cutting. Single-lane closure are also planned on the route between mile markers 14 and 16, vicinity of Kolekole Beach Park and Umauma Stream, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Thursday, Feb. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for vegetation cutting, as well as between mile markers 23 and 28, Kapehu Road to vicinity of Stevens Road, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving.

• On Highway 130, Keaau-Pahoa Road, single-lane closures are possible in either direction between mile markers 0 and 3, Volcano Road and the Adopt A Highway sign, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation cutting. A single-lane closure is also possible between mile markers 3 and 5, vicinity of the Adopt A Highway sign and between Puakalo Street and Kaloli Drive, on Monday, Feb. 6, through Friday, Feb. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for vegetation removal from culverts.

Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.
