Hospital offers scholarships

Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital has several college scholarship opportunities available.

The Peggy Dineen-Orsini Scholarship offers $2,000 to a resident of Hawaii County who is enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in a National League of Nursing-accredited program in Hawaii or on the mainland. Private donors fund this scholarship in honor of Peggy Dineen-Orsini, who was a registered nurse at Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital from 1996 to 2004, remembered for her compassion for her patients, colleagues and friends.

The Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital staff is offering two $1,000 scholarships to Hawaii County residents who demonstrate financial need and are currently enrolled in a program to obtain a health care profession degree.

Hawaii Emergency Physicians Associated is offering a $3,000 scholarship to a graduating high school student who demonstrates financial need and who without assistance would have no opportunity to attend college.

Applications and instructions are available online at www.nhch.com or call the Fund Development office at (808) 991-4420. Completed applications and required documents must be received or postmarked by April 30.

Ke Ala Kahawai O Waimea workday planned

The community is invited to take part in a workday to clean Ke Ala Kahawai O Waimea at Waimea Nature Park.

The clean up event at the streamside trail will run from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at the park. Refreshments will follow.

Participants are asked to bring work gloves, weed whackers or chainsaws, sunscreen, water and hand tools.

Big Island Art Fair March 23-25

The Big Island Art Fair returns March 23 to 35 at Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea.

This month, the artists are competing in a “Real or Imagined Spring Landscape”Art contest. Come vote for your favorite and help an artist win $250. On March 24, a lucky fair visitor will win $100 to spend at the fair.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 23; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 24; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 25.
