Laurie Gomes

Laurie Kaluna Gomes, 56, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii died Feb. 6, 2023 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born October 27, 1966 in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was a self-employed housekeeper. A celebration of life will be held at noon March 11, 2023 at Napoopoo Bay pavilion in Napoopoo, Hawaii. Casual attire requested. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Gomes of Kailua-Kona; sons, Jacob Gomes of Oregon, Mesepa (Erica Gouveia-Kahele) Gomes of Honalo; brother, Thomas (Marisa Henderson) Gouveia of Kailua-Kona; sister, Remie (Lars) Ige of Kealakekua; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Juanita Tomas

Juanita “Janet” Tomas, 86, of Mountain View, died Feb. 5, 2023 at Hilo Medical Center, born on Feb. 17, 1936, in Pepeekeo; she was a retired Waitress at numerous Hotels on the Big Island of Hawaii. Celebration of Her Life will be held at a later date She is survived by sons, Julio Tomas, Jr. and Jeffrey Tomas of Mountain View; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Tomas, Jr. and Natasha Tomas; f;ive great-grandchildren: Journey Leialoha, Legacy Leialoha, Major Leialoha, Bodhi Mitchell and Isabella Mitchell; sisters, Carol Ducosin and Judith (Fred) Parker of Honolulu; brother, Frank Masocol of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers in-law, Jaime (Mary) Tomas of Hilo and Rudolph Pacol of Oahu; sisters in-law, Helen Latore, Rose Maikui and Linda Tomas; Marina Tomas and Bernadette Tomas of Hilo; numerous nieces, nieces and cousins. Hisashi Horiuchi

Hisashi Horiuchi, 91, of Hilo, , died Jan. 30, 2023 in the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Paia, Maui, on September 21, 1931 he retired as a salesman from the Hilo Rice Mill company in Hilo, was previously employed by the Naniloa Hotel in Hilo as their Head Storeroom Keeper, a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. He is survived son, Kenn (Marisa) Horiuchi of Honolulu; daughter, Lynne Horiuchi of Hilo; sister-in-law, Carol (Paul) Nishimura of Hilo; two grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Minoru Takehiro Jr.

Minoru “Junior” “Mino” Takehiro Jr., 89, of Hilo, died Feb. 9, 2023, at home. Born in Pahala, he was a retired self-employed farmer, U.S. Army Korean War veteran and member of South Panaewa Community Association, 7-11 Golf Club and Woodworkers Association. Friends may call at 10 a.m. March 10, 2023 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. Celebration of Life. Cremation to follow. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or flowers. In his memory, donations can be made to Hawaii Care Choices, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, HI 96720. He is survived by wife, Katherine Takehiro of Hilo; daughters, Teri (Mark Hansell) Takehiro, Connie (Collins) Tomei, Deborah Ombac and Pamela (Charles) King, all of Hilo; brother, Herald Takehiro of Pearl City, Oahu; sister-in-law, Lenore Howe of Atlanta, Mich.; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. John Perez III

John “Bobo” Nicholas Perez III, 76, of Hoolehua, died Dec. 11, 2022 ,in Waimea. Born on May 12, 1946, he managed the former Don Ho’s Island Grill at the Aloha Tower Marketplace, Molokai Ranch Dining Room, worked at Kanemitsu’s in Kaunakakai, a musician and performed with Bell and James, Dick Jenson and Molokai Jazz West, a high school teacher and dry waller. Celebration of Life on April 15, 2023 Saturday at Hoolehua Congregational Church, Fellowship, Pavilion, 2205 Lihipali Avenue, Molokai. 9 a.m. Visitation; 10 a.m. Memorial Service; 11 a.m. Proceed to Kanakaloloa Cemetery for an Inurnment; 12-12:30 p.m. Homestead style lunch. He is survived by four daughters, grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.
