Dennis Masaki

Dennis Mitsuru Masaki, 75, of Hilo, died Jan. 31 at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Hilo and was a human resource worker with the Hilo Medical Center, member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and a Vietnam Veteran of the US Army. Private services were held. He is survived by wife, Charlotte Masaki of Hilo; daughters, Erika (Michael Trevathan) Masaki of Oregon and Sara Masaki of Hilo; brother, Owen (Grace) Masaki of Honolulu; three granddaughters. Matthew Sellens

Matthew P. “Matt” Sellens, 54, of Kailua-Kona, passed away on Jan. 9. Born June 4, 1968 in Anchorage, Alaska, he was a 1987 graduate of Konawaena High School. He is survived by mother, Phyllis Sellens; stepfather, Robert Bates, both of Kailua-Kona; sister, Tami Sellens Gouveia, of Waimea; nephew, Pekelo Gouveia; nieces, Glean Gouveia and Genneyrose Gouveia, all of Kailua-Kona. Walter Wang

Dr. Walter Wang, a beloved husband, father, and physician, passed away on Oct. 18, 2022. Born and raised in Hawaii, he spent most of his career serving as a family physician through his private practice and as the West Hawaii County doctor. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, and his six children, who will carry on his memory and his spirit of aloha. A public memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at 77-165 Lako St. Kailua-Kona.

Betty De Conte

Betty May De Conte 92, passed away Jan. 15. She was born in Hilo. She worked at SaveMore Supermarket for 32 years. After her retirement, Betty donated her time at St. Joseph Catholic Church’s thrift store in Hilo for many years. She is survived by her Son, Herb (Carol) De Conte of Los Gatos, CA; daughters Paula (Darryl) Willis of Hilo and Lisa De Conte of Hilo, five grandsons and three generations of nephews and nieces. Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, March 6, 2023, Visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; Celebration of Mass at 9:30 a.m. Please no monetary gifts or flowers. William Peterson

William Eric Peterson, 79, of Paauilo, formerly of Oregon, died Feb. 25, 2023, at home. Born in Portland, Ore., he was retired from Darigold Dairy, a U.S. Air Force veteran and member of the Western Conference of Teamsters. Celebration of Life will take place in Oregon at a later date. He is survived by wife, Julie Peterson; daughter, Emily (Justin Habel) Peterson; son, William Peterson; sister, Patti Rawe; brother, Thomas (Anita) Peterson; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Dorcas McThenia Christescu, 91, of Waimea died Feb 14, 2023 at her residence. Born September 14, 1931 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she was a hospital administrative worker. Peter John Begg, 79, of Waikoloa died Feb. 1, 2023 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born on May 4, 1943, a citizen of United Kingdom, he was a retired software engineer.
