Mildred Fukuchi

Mildred M. Fukuchi, 83, of Hilo, passed away on April 2, 2022 in San Diego, CA. Born February 26, 1939 in Hilo, she was a retired shuttle bus driver for Thrifty Rent a Car.

She is survived by sons, Ken (Bellie) Fukuchi of San Diego, Brad (Mary Grace) Fukuchi of Hilo, Dean Fukuchi of Hilo; daughter, Gwen (Howard Hose) Fukuchi-Hose of Hilo; 3 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, brothers, Thomas (Rose) Nagano of Cerritos, CA, Richard (Avis) Nagano of Hilo; sisters, Helen Matsui, Norine Okuhara both of Hilo and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, March 31, 2023, Visitation: 2 p.m. Service at 3 p.m. at Ballard Family Mortuary, Hilo.

David Henriques Sr.

David William Henriques Sr, 68 died Feb. 9 in Honolulu. Born June 15, 1954 in Kealakekua, He was a heavy equipment operator. He is survived by partner Kehaulani Freitas, Chatzi, Dj, Keawe and `Umi Henriques of Kealakekua. Service on May 6, 2023 at Yano Hall from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Eunice Oshiro

Eunice Akemi Oshiro, 63, of Gardena, California passed away Feb. 15 at the Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. Born in Hilo, she was a Senior Consultant for People Soft, I.0., and most recent, Sierra Cedar. Her clients included: Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fresno, San Bernadino Dominguez Hills and many others. She was the former Chef’s Table Coordinator and Avid Traveler. Private services held. Survived by brothers, Brian (Rio) Oshiro of Seoul, Korea, Gabriel Oshiro of Hilo; sister, Claire (Keith) Miyashiro of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Everett Crumb

Everett Arthur Crumb, Jr., 80, of Hilo, died March 4 at home. He was born in Honolulu and was a retired police officer with the Hawaii County Police Department, then was a licensed CDL examiner in the driver’s Licensing Divisionv and was the owner/operator of E C Trucking. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Apr. 1 at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire. He is survived by wife, Beverly “Ant Pua” Kekaualua Crumb of Hilo; daughter, Lorelei Leinaala (Blake Williams) Crumb of Texas; son, Dan-Everett Kamalu (Laurie Nonohe) Crumb of Texas; hanai daughter, Kapuanani (Chad) Kawewehi of Hilo; hanai son, Kalama Kawewehi of Hilo; sister, Shirley (Joseph) Pacheco of Hilo; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Thomas Kumano

Thomas Takumi “Tak” Kumano, 94, of Keaau, died March 8, 2023. Born in Hilo on March 24, 1928, he retired from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in the Nuclear Type Desk Section. Private services were held at Puna Hongwanji and Homelani Memorial Park. No koden, donations can be made to Puna Hongwanji Mission in Takumi’s memory. Helen Yamada

Helen Yoko Yamada, 87, of Mountain View died Mar. 11 at her residence. Born in Mountain View, she was a retired mathematics professor at the University of Hawaii-Hilo and member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission and its Kyodan, Buddhist Women’s Association and Senior YBA. Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sisters, Etsuko Yoshino of Hilo, Jane (Masa) Onuma of Hilo, Nancy Yamada of Mountain View, Joanne (Clyde) Yoshida of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

He is survived by wife, Leona Mundon-Kahoonei of Hilo; daughters, Laurilyn (Frank) Puni and Kenny Deane Kane of Kauai; brother, James “Jimmy” Kahoonei of Oahu; Sister, Ann “Darlene” Kawai of Oahu; three grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; nieces &nephews.
