The West Hawai’i County Band, your local community/civic band, announces Band in the Bay, a concert presented free to the public at Honu’s On The Beach at the King Kamehameha Hotel, Sunday, April 2, at 4:00 p.m.

The band is excited to perform at this new venue. As always, this concert will be absolutely free. There will be seating in the restaurant, on the lanai, and on the grass area outside the restaurant. Audience members who want grass seating are encouraged to bring beach chairs. The King Kamehameha Hotel will validate parking for audience members who order food or drink during the concert.

The 20 members of the band, led by guest director Richard Shields will present an hour of free band music in this installment of its monthly Free Concert Series. In keeping with our location, named for King Kamehameha the Great, the band will perform two selections from it’s Hawai’ian collection; “Kei Kali Nai Au,” sometimes referred to as “The Hawaiian Wedding Song” and the appropriately titled “Na Ali‘i.” In keeping with the brass band tradition in the Islands the band will feature several marches including “The Corcoran Cadets” and “Hosts of Freedom.” Moving on to a more contemporary vein you will enjoy music by Adele and Journey, as well as selections from “How To Train Your Dragon” and ever popular selections from Disney movies (altogether now “M-I-C-K-E-Y…”) And for you jazzers get ready to tap your toes to a couple classics, “Blue Moon” and “A Night in Tunisia”

An additional performance is scheduled for Sunday April 30 at Hale Halawai on Ali‘i Drive in Kailua-Kona, starting at 4pm. The band has scheduled two concerts in April to allow all of their talented musicians to perform.
