County Resurfacing Kuakini Highway
Resurfacing on Kuakini Highway between Hualalai and Onioni Street will continue until April 20 or 21.
The County Department of Public Works is paving a portion of Kuakini highway. Motorists are advised there will be delays and to take alternate routes.

Come help Keep Puako Beautiful and South Kohala Reef Alliance with their community coastal cleanup day-Beach, Trail, Land or Water
8 a.m.; Welcome and pre-cleanup briefing , sign-in waivers,
8:30 a.m: Cleanup begins: Select a site and return to sign in, orientation, cleanup safety, sign in waivers, distribution of cleanup supplies.
Return sooner or later; to scale and weigh trash, complete, record and total data cards. Separate and bag fishing line, cigarette litter, hi5 and landfill trash.
Bring: Personal water bottle, hat, sturdy shoes, water cleanup gear, and anythingneeded for personal comfort and safety, something to share at the hydration, potluck &snack station.

Kona Bike Fest 2023 Events to take place on April 22-23
Hawaii Cycling Club, Hawaii Island Community Health Center and PATH present Kona Bike Fest 2023 on Saturday April 22 featuring s a one-hour bicycle rodeo for agility training, a one-hour bicycle safety training class, a 2-mile family fun ride, and a bicycle equipment swap meet. Big Island Century – Hawaii Cycling Club and Metzler Contracting present the Big Island Century and a collection of shorter bicycle rides, on Sunday, April 23. The Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK) will hold a two-day book sale inside the Kailua Kona Public Library lobby from 11:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m. on Friday, April 21st, and from 9:00 a. m. to noon on Saturday, April 22nd.There will be wide variety of books to choose from including children’s, Hawaiiana, fiction, non-fiction, paperback trades, cookbooks and special books. Doug Meller to speak at League of Women Voters Hawaii County Meeting on April 22, 2023
The next general (and annual) meeting of the League of Women Voters of Hawai`i County (LWVHC) will be held in person and via Zoom on Saturday, April 22, 10:00 a.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Puna, Hawaii Paradise Park. Doug Meller’s presentation will address a topic that is at the core of LWV’s promotion of democracy: Transparency in Government. Specifically, Doug will touch upon some key aspects of the policy and legislative underpinnings of the state Sunshine Law and Uniform Practices Act, together with their actual implementation of challenges and shortcomings.
Doug Meller was born and lived most of his life in Honolulu. He possesses a BS degree in Physics from the University of California at Riverside and an MA in Urban Planning from the University of Hawaii.
