Waimea community association to hold town meeting
Department of Public Works Director Steve Pause will share an overview of this high-demand department – from Building and Engineering to Highways and Traffic during Waimea Community Association’s hybrid Town Meeting from 5:30-7 p.m., Thurs., May 4, 2023 at Tutu’s House. All are welcome to attend the meeting in person. It also will be streamed “live” to the association’s Facebook page facebook.com/WaimeaCommunityAssociation and to WCA’s YouTube channel by going to WaimeaTown.org for a link. VASH fundraiser – charity walk &after-party to be held this month
One of VASH’s biggest annual fundraisers is Hawaii Island’s annual Charity Walk After Party, where the organization hosts a Keiki Superhero and Princess Booth where kids are provided costumes, accessories and photo backdrops to dress for memorable picture-taking. This year’s Charity Walk is Sat., May 13.
Walmart to provide free community health screenings
Walmart invites Hawaii residents to check in on their health at Walmart Wellness Day this Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walmart stores are participating. Customers can receive free glucose, cholesterol, BMI and blood pressure screenings as well as affordable immunizations like COVID-19, flu, RSV, tetanus, shingles, hepatitis, HPV and more at pharmacies nationwide. Additionally, in-store giveaways and demos of nutrition, lifestyle and wellness products will be available at select stores.
Roth’s climate action plan announced
Mayor Mitch Roth is proud to announce the release of the County of Hawaii Integrated Climate Action Plan (ICAP), a comprehensive strategy that outlines the County’s responsibility to combat global climate change and bolster the resiliency of its services and facilities in the face of climate-related impacts. This cross-departmental effort brings together the expertise and insights of a diverse range of stakeholders and reflects the County’s commitment to take bold action on climate change.
The ICAP serves as a roadmap for the County’s climate action goals and identifies the key actions that must be taken to achieve these objectives. It also provides a framework for accountability and transparency and serves as a tool to ensure that the County remains on track in its efforts to address climate change. Hawaii County encourages all residents to review the ICAP and provide feedback from May 1, 2023, to June 1, 2023. The County seeks public input and participation to promote sustainable development and foster a resilient community. The plan can be accessed through the County’s website at cohplanning.konveio.com under “Current Projects.”
Ride of Silence to be take place May 20
The Hawaii Cycling Club, Coffee Talk Riders and PATH invite cyclists of all abilities and ages to join together in a Ride of Silence on May 20, 2023 at 9:30 AM from the Kona Aquatic Center in memory of the cyclists who have lost their lives or have been seriously injured. Hawaii County Police will escort cyclists – not to exceed 12 mph – along the two-mile course –Kona Aquatic Center to Alii Dr. to Hualali to Kuakini Highway back to the Kona Aquatic Center. Cyclists ride in silence.
Arrive at 9:00 AM for Talk Story, organization, sign insurance waiver and to hear a short presentation on the Ride of Silence.The Ride of Silence is free. Wearing a helmet is required. Refreshments will be provided – both, before and after the ride. The Ride of Silence is a worldwide event that started in 2003 in Dallas, TX.
