Aloha Theatre will present “Disney’s Descendants: The Musical,” this year’s junior show, opening June 2 and running through June 18.

Based on the Disney channel original movies of the same name, this musical is a fun take on classic Disney characters you know and love (or love to hate). Imprisoned on the Isle of the Lost – home of the most infamous villains – the teenaged children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella de Vil have never ventured off the island, until now. When the four troublemakers are sent to attend prep school alongside the children of beloved Disney heroes, they have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?

This production is directed by Amelia Thorne, with vocal direction by Wendy Buzby, and choreography by Christian Aragon. It features performances from a slew of wonderful young performers. As the four troublemakers from the Isle of Lost we have Anna Lei Leuenberger as Mal, Capri Kapule as Evie, Elizabeth Greedy as Jay, and Parker Van Velsor as Carlos. Playing their famous parents are Isabella Bowen as Maleficent, Stevie Muensterman as Grimhilde, Tyrus Kapule as Jafar, and Maya Anderson as Cruella de Vil. Their “good” counterparts are played by Maya Shoosmith as Ben, Leila Gay as Chad, Mikayla Winkler as Audrey, Kai Hollinger as Doug, Scarlette Burnham as Jane, Tyra Iaela as the Fairy Godmother, Lilkoi Canas as Queen Belle, Shardae Frias as Snow White, Ash Millr as Maurice, Aiko Bear as the Coach, and Tyrus Kapule as King Beast. The ensemble features Cecile Palmgren, Aysha Pham, Aiyana Martinez, Eliana Gay, Chayton Martinez, Emmalani Foster, Hayden Kapule-Hams, and Kam Leuenberger in various roles.

The set was designed by director Amelia Thorne with Victor Lugo as lead builder and Rebecca Gottesman as scenic painter. The sound is designed and operated by Nu‘u Crouch, lights designed and operated by Hal Snyder, both under the mentorship of Jeff Rowand. Costumes are designed and created by Nicole Burnham, hair and makeup designed by Brooke Aragon, Anna Payesko is props master, and Debbie Goetz is rehearsal pianist.

This production is appropriate for all ages. “Disney’s Descendants: The Musical” includes loud amplified music and bright and flickering lights. The show is about 90 minutes long with no intermission. “Descendants” will run for three weekends June 2 through June 18. Concessions, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase at the theatre. Tickets are available at alohatheatre.com.
