The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of July is watercolor artist and digital designer Stefanie Culbertson.

Culbertson started painting with watercolors, whenshe first moved to Hawaii in 1989 from the ‘Old World’ Germany. She has been doing art since shecould hold a pen in her hand, and was an art major at school there. Her fascination with the lush beauty of this Island continues to inspire her art and she has grown deep roots here. She earned her AA degrees in Liberal Arts and Drama and her BA in Digital Design. Culbertson started her own business Tiffany Arts Designs in 2006, immediately after graduating, painting and selling her art, working on art commissions and creating digital designs, incorportating both media as well.

We perceive the visible world with our vision. There are deeper layers beyond what meets the ordinary eye, our intuitive vision, the emotional and spiritual experience sensed and perceived. That is the focus of a lot of Culbertson’s art, showing the deeper levels of perception, or hidden things. Among her featured works are the watercolor “The Guardians – Pu’uhonua O Honaunau”, or Place of Refuge. It is one of her favorite and special places to reflect on life, get centered again and swim.

Another one is ”Aloha” a fusion of watercolors and digital design, showing the love of the Island with lava, waterfall, the sun, bamboo and wave interwoven in the letters. The triangles, like traditional tattoos, maka ihe, symbolizing the land, sea and sky, or male, female and spiritual, or past, present and future. You can find more of her work at tiffanyartsdesigns.com.
