Kimie Miyashiro

Mrs. Kimie Miyashiro, age 97, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii (formerly of Hilo, Hawaii) passed away on May 9, 2023 at Raquel Domingo Community Care Foster Family home in Kailua Kona. She was born in Pepeekeo, Hawaii on June 29, 1925 and retired as an LPN/Central Supply at Hilo Hospital. She was a member of the Honomu Hongwanji Mission Fujinkai. Private services held. No flowers. She is survived by daughter, Patricia (Calvin) Okahara of Kailua-Kona; son, Gregg (Rhoda) Miyashiro of Hilo; brother, Roy (Elsie) Oka of Pepeekeo; sisters, Shizue Teshima of Honolulu, Toshie Watanabe of Kauai, Margaret Oka of Los Angeles, California and June Neff of Sparks, Nevada; sister-in-law, Jane Oka of San Diego, California; brother-in-law, Isamu Miyashiro of Fountain Valley, California; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces. Leonardo Alatan

Leonardo “Reynold” Alatan, 94, of Pepeekeo, died on June 8 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired Sugar Cane Treatment Operator for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company. He also was a Veteran in the Hawai’i Army National Guard. Friends may call on Saturday, August 12 at The House Hilo at 2282 Kanoelehua Ave., Hilo; Visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:25 a.m.; Military Honors at 10:25 a.m. with Memorial Service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. He is survived by son, Alan (Sandy) Alatan of Keaau; daughters, Corinne (Kirk) Awong and Lori Ann (Zach) Picar of Hilo; sisters, Rosemary Moses of Pepeekeo and Frances Spidell of Hilo; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; numerous uncle, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Caron Ikeda

Caron Naomi Ikeda age 43, of Honolulu passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023. She was born in Kealakekua, HI and was a Vice President and Manager for Bank of Hawaii Trust Services Group, Financial Planning Dept. She is survived by father Aaron; mother Carol; sister Kelsi (Wyatt) Akahoshi; nephew Connor Akahoshi; grandparents Sandy Iwashita and Ike Ikeda; fur baby Cooper and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation 4:30 p.m. On Friday, August 11, 2023 at Nuuanu memorial Park &Mortuary-east chapel, service 5:30 p.m. Family requests no flowers please.

Joseph Ah Choy Sr.

Joseph Robert Ah Choy Sr., 92 of Ookala, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at home. Born on December 20, 1930, in Papaaloa; he was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator for the Hamakua Sugar Plantation, a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe, and a member and volunteer of the Hawaii County Senior Program. Friends may call on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Dodo Mortuary. Visitation from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Funeral Services at 10 a.m. Burial at Alae Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. (Section K). Lauren Nishimoto

Lauren Lee Fong Nishimoto, 77, of Hilo, died July 18 at home. She was born in Hilo and was a quality control reviewer with the State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services and was also a member of the Honohina-Papaaloa Hongwanji Missions. Visitation 3-4 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 5) at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Memorial service at 4 p.m. Casual attire; no koden (monetary donations).
